College athletes are prepping up for the NBA draft. And after each mock draft, there is another unheard talent being spotted. One such athlete is Ja’Kobe Walter. Walter is currently poised to enter the NBA 2024 draft as the sixteenth overall pick. This might see him going to the Philadelphia 76ers

If that happens then the 76ers have a real possibility of rebuilding their game and team. This can benefit them in the next NBA season as Walter is exceptionally good with his quickness and leadership and if the 76ers groom him then they will get an exceptional player as his game reflects a complete player.

Walter is 6 feet 5 inches in height and weighs 88 kg. He has brilliant athleticism due to his size and lean structure. Walter therefore plies his trade as a shooting guard. He is more of an offensive player who can find gaps and look for open spaces with complete ease. His less weight makes him the perfect fit to dribble and squeeze the ball through gaps and score at will.

However, what suffers a little is his defensive abilities. The reason may be that he lacks that much strength compared to his agility. And in the NBA which is one of the most competitive physical leagues, it is really important for a player to have the desired force both mentally and physically lest he will be penetrable for the offensive stars of the opponents.

However, to get an exact idea of his abilities it is necessary to check his number at the Baylor where the 19-year-old competed for a season before declaring for the draft. This will give an exact view of how much he will sustain in the NBA with his current skills.

Ja’Kobe Walter Stats

Walter averages a decent 14.5 points per game with 4.4 rebounds per match. While he was good at scoring, he lacked defensive skills and the ability to make assists. And that is clear from his numbers as he had only 1.4 assists per game.

When it comes to scoring, he recorded an exceptional 28 points on his debut against the Auburn Tigers. This made him a player of high capabilities. He also nabbed 5 rebounds in the game. Therefore, he can conveniently use his height when needed. He further ahead continued his on-song performances as he continued to battle it out against the Kansas City Roos when he scored 23 points.

He once again backed his exceptional skills by performing well against the Mississippi Valley. In that game, he thrashed 26 points and proved to everyone that he was not a one-time wonder. Apart from that he seized 4 rebounds and 5 assists. This also shadowed the criticism when he had been accused of being poor in assists. But while his points game flourished, his assists game wasn’t to be found barring a few matches.

He again made 23 points thrice. And even in the postseason during the second round against the Clemson Tigers, Walter scored 20 points in a losing cause. He made 6 rebounds in that game but could only support with a singular assist and that once again brought forward his inability to play as a second fiddle.

Therefore, while the 76ers could benefit from his scoring ability, they will have to train him to play the supporting role. If that doesn’t happen then Walter will have to take his time to be entrusted with the responsibilities of being the primary scorer. How much he adapts to his game will be clear once when he enters the NBA.

Ja’KobeWalter NBA Combine Draft

Walter has a wingspan of 6 feet 10 inches and is extremely good with his quickness. His lane agility time is 11 seconds whereas his shuttle run was 2.92 seconds in the NBA combine draft. Meanwhile, he had a decent standing vertical leap of 30.5 inches. Plus, he had a max vertical leap of 38.5 inches.

All this proves that he is an exemplary player to take part in the NBA and prove his ability to make astounding dunks. However, what makes things tough for him is his ability to assist along with his agility when making shots. He lacks the sudden explosiveness that basketball requires. If he makes up for these things, then he will be one of the most valued picks for the 76ers, and given his ability to play as a 2-way player when needed, the 76ers can be sure of having a good time with him.

However, in the case if he fails to deliver on his promising talent then there can be issues for him as he will find it difficult to sustain in the NBA. The most important part for him is to keep his head down and work on his assist-making ability since he is not going to be alpha coming into the NBA and will have to make sure that he plays the supporting role with humility and grace.
