Seems like injuries are a recurring theme for this edition of the NCAA women’s basketball. Many prominent athletes’ campaigns have been cut short because of severe season-ending injuries. Another such unfortunate incident took place with TCU’s Jaden Owens on Saturday when the Horned Frogs took on the Houston Cougars at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Horned Frogs had an unsuccessful trip to Houston where they were handed a disappointing 77-66 loss. To make matters worse, Owens, their stand-out performer succumbed to a horrible injury on her right knee.

With less than 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter, TCU trailed Houston for 2 points with just 3 minutes on the clock. Jaden Owens was on her way to level the score with her coast-to-coast attempt. Unfortunately, before she could land a successful jump shot, she took an awkward fall onto the hardwood. She was clutching her right knee. Following this, her teammates surrounded her. Soon after, Coach Mark Campbell, along with the team’s athletic trainer–Tera Sanchez–also ran to Jaden in concern. Later, the medical staff confirmed that she had a serious injury.

The TCU medical staff carried her out of the court. On further evaluation, the specialists established that she had torn her anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in the right knee on Saturday. This will account for her missing the rest of the season. Everyone on the court at the time saw this happen, right in front of their eyes.

Sadly, the injury also ended her college basketball career, as she was already a senior. The TCU women’s basketball also released a statement from the guard through a post they shared on their official Instagram page. An impeccable player like Owens, with her set of experience and skills, made her an indispensable part of the Horned Frogs. It will be really difficult for the team to get out of this void she’s leaving behind.
