Trailing by just one, the Iowa Hawkeyes are still shining at #2. In their recent matchup, the team played valiantly against Penn State and secured a 111-93 home victory in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Forward Hannah Stuelke, especially, played a pivotal role in breaking the home court record by scoring a career-high 47 points by shooting 17-of-20 from the field along with 9 rebounds. Her performance marked the 16th 40-point marvel in the program’s history and the second most points scored in a single game.

Although the Hawkeyes trailed in the first quarter, however, they made a dominant comeback by strongly responding in the second. Hannah Stuelke’s injury

In November 2023, Hannah Stuelke suffered an injury in her right ankle at the beginning of the fourth quarter of the tournament opener against Purdue-Fort Wayne. It happened when she went up for a layup, however, dropped down after taking a cumbersome step near to the basket. As a result, she couldn’t return to the hardwood and was helped to the locker room. Her injury limited her score in the game to 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Hawkeyes coach Lisa Bluder said at the time, “I don’t think she’ll be back for this weekend. Hopefully for the Iowa State, but that has yet to be determined. She is doubtful for this week. I’m not going to go into the exact injury. It’s just not my place to talk about the personal injuries of our players,” as reported by On3.

But this setback couldn’t keep Stuelke from playing as she performed with utmost resilience by playing in the following game against Florida Gulf Coast with a wrapped ankle. She recently set an arena record for both men’s and women’s programs by scoring a career-high 47 points, leaving Clark behind in this one. More so, her score was just 2 points shy of breaking the program record set by Hawkeye Megan Gustafson with 48 points.

Stuelke’s significant contributions this season

Simply put, Stuelke has been strongly facing challenges while achieving remarkable milestones. This season, she has been averaging 14.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Moreover, she has been shooting with a field goal percentage of 63.8%, which has earned her 8th rank in the United States. Important to mention her career night when she scored a whopping 47 points along with 9 rebounds, and an assist.

Similarly, she contributed 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in a matchup against Maryland. On the other hand, she scored 17 points and 9 rebounds against Northwestern.
