Jayhawks fans, what is your team doing? No one expected BYU to blow out Kansas in a 34-point thrashing. Bill Self’s team performed miserable, scoring 57 against BYU’s 91 with only Hunter Dickinson and Bill Colt reaching double figures. On the flip side, BYU’s star forward Richie Saunders dropped 22 points, shooting 50% from three. This poor showing has raised concerns from analysts across the nation.

On The Field of 68: After Dark, show host Terrence Oglesby talked about Kansas’ predicament. Their star player Dickinson had an inefficient game, and TO held nothing back. “Hunter Dickinson went for 12 and 14, I’m ready for this era to be done. I’m ready for the Hunter Dickinson college era to be done. It’s time.” He said, fed up with the

Jayhawks’ antics. It hasn’t just been this game either, as Oglesby talked about how the team subverted positive expectations.

“It’s a weird roster that doesn’t fit well together and it just kind of is what it is at this point.” Pre-season expectations had KU in the top 5 teams in the nation. Bill Self and Hunter Dickinson were supposed to be at the center of an incredible Big 12 team, but luck hasn’t gone their way. Oglesby, however, didn’t deny the talent that the team possessed, just how it fitted. He even admitted that the circumstances that they won in weren’t easy. “Now, Provo is not an easy to play, granted. It’s a whole bunch of angry, sober people in that gym, and they’re letting you have it.

Oglesby gave BYU their well-earned flowers, calling them a highly talented team, but the way that Kansas lost was still appalling. However good BYU may be, Kansas is not 34 points worse than them. The analyst went on to say that Kansas needs to move on from both Dajuan Harris Jr., who scored only 2 points, and Hunter Dickinson. “For Kansas, I think everybody kind of needs a wash.”

‘There is no 20 point-play,’ Hunter Dickinson faces the music after disappointing loss

It was a disappointing outing for Hunter Dickinson and the Kansas Jayhawks. They trailed the entirety of the game, never once pulling ahead of the Cougars. Not only that, they lacked in just about every way possible. They couldn’t go the line, they missed a lot of shots, and they lacked intent.

After receiving the thrashing from BYU, Hunter Dickinson sat down with the media to talk about the game. When asked if he was concerned about Kansas giving early leads to their opposition, he was quite upfront with his answer. “It got away from us real quick. I think it was 26-12 in the first six to eight minutes. That’s kind of where the game was lost. I feel like you can’t let a team get off to 8-0 starts on the road two games in a row.”

To his credit, however, Dickinson gave no excuses for his team’s performance. A reporter asked him whether altitude played a role in Kansas’ losses, to which he replied. “Altitude is a real thing but I don’t think it led us to give up 14 threes. I think that was kind of more just us not being ready to play.”

Bill Self and his team are in quite a precarious position. If they continue on this way, there’s a chance that Kansas doesn’t get a shot at the national title this year. It has been quite disappointing for Kansas fans so far, but the show isn’t over yet! They may not be the first seed as predicted in the pre-season, but Bill Self and Hunter Dickinson still have a shot at redemption.
