The seemingly invincible South Carolina Gamecocks will look to secure their third NCAA title on Sunday. In yet another dominating display, the Gamecocks brushed aside the challenges posed by NC State and kept their unbeaten record alive. Once again, Dawn Staley’s roster has shown why they are among the most destructive teams in the women’s division at present.

After the game was evenly poised on 32-31 at half-time, South Carolina began an offensive onslaught that had a 29-6 run in the third quarter. That buried any chance of a comeback for the Lady Wolfpacks.

Unlike their previous season’s heartbreak which saw them exit the tournament from their Final Four encounter against Iowa, South Carolina gets the job done this time around. However, it wasn’t like just another victory as the Gamecocks gave a powerful message through their scintillating third-quarter display. Evidently, the story began with Raven Johnson’s jumper that extended the lead to 3 points. After this, a three-pointer from Te-Hina Paopao followed by a free throw conversion (Aziaha James) and Ashlyn Watkins’ Two Point Tip Shot created further separation.

The first points in the quarter came for NC State after two and a half minutes of play through Aziaha James’ jumper. Till then, the Gamecocks already had a 10-point advantage. The Wolfpacks tried to find their way back into the game after River Baldwin’s two free throws. At this time, Kamilla Cardoso came into the picture and along with MiLaysia Fulwiley made a series of layups which also included a Three Point Jumper from Tessa Johnson. Soon after, highlight reel beyond the arc shots from Te-Hina Paopao and Bree Hall capped off the quarter handing the Gamecocks a 24-point lead.
