This year’s Final Four participant UConn has two of its former stars representing them in the 2024 WNBA drafts. The duo of Aliyah Edwards and Nika Muhl are now entering the professional world after having a fantastic final senior campaign with the Huskies.

However, it appears that both of them aren’t getting the same acknowledgment on the night. While the 6-foot-3 power forward Edwards was chosen by The Washington Mystics as a sixth overall pick, Muhl was the 14th overall pick and will get a chance to feature with the Seattle Storm. Moreover, she follows the footsteps of WNBA legend and former Husky Sue Bird who was the Storm’s first choice in 2002. Following this, she led them to four championships.

Muhl was Seattle’s first choice for the night as they later on picked the 6-foot-3 forward from Indiana, Mackenzie Holmes. Seemingly, she was their second pick in the third round of this year’s draft. Soon after, the all-time assists leader with the Huskies expressed her thrill on this upcoming journey. Talking to ESPN, she said, “I am excited to bring who I am to Seattle, my hard work ethic.”

Anyhow, this second-round recognition of the Two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year didn’t go down well with the fans.

Nika Muhl’s late WNBA draft arrival frustrates fans

Seemingly, the majority of them thought that she should have been placed higher in the draft given her exceptional performance in the Final Four. As it turned out, Muhl was the answer for Geno Auriemma on how to tackle Caitlin Clark.

Tagging the Connecticut Sun, fans expressed their disappointment in missing the chance to make her a worthy inclusion.

Another fan was eagerly waiting for her to get drafted earlier. But, due to the delay, he displayed his irritation on X.

Meanwhile, some surprised fans were asking why wasn’t the Croatian superstar not drafted in the first round.

Also, some of her supporters were issuing warnings to the teams who were skipping her. Additionally, they were also eager to witness her guard the best players in the league.

Some comments also termed the neglect as blatant disrespect.

Clearly, people don’t seem to be pleased by some of the big franchises overlooking Nika Muhl. The kind of performance she turned up in the Final Four against Iowa was truly commendable. Perhaps it’s because the injury she succumbed to in that game pushed her so far in the drafts.
