Many are wondering if Kentucky can come out as a surprise winner of the South region. After getting knocked out by Texas A&M in the SEC quarterfinals, the Wildcats occupied the third spot beating the likes of Duke in the South region. However, despite their conference tournament setback, Kentucky still holds a strong contention for this year’s Final Four.
To evaluate their chances further, popular basketball analysts spared some thoughts on their upcoming journey. Let’s dive in deeper to have a further grasp on their Kentucky outlook.
The Field Of 68: After Dark recently had a very detailed chat regarding the Men’s March Madness bracket. Rob Dauster hosted popular analysts Kevin Sweeney and Tyler Hansbrough and focused their attention on the Wildcat’s chances. Following this, Dauster asked Hansbrough if he would pick Kentucky to win their opening round. To this, he replied, “No I’m not.” Consequently, his response shocked both the panelists. He further elaborated his response by saying, “I think Kentucky has the ability to score. Reed Sheppard is unbelievable. They are gonna lose but it’s not against Oakland.”

The Final Four road for the Kentucky Wildcats
After their Oakland square-off, Kentucky will have a chance to go against either Texas Tech or NC State in Round 2. Subsequently, a positive result will take them to their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2019. Here they will have a chance to stand toe-to-toe with the Golden Eagles who appear to be the prediction favorites coming out of Indianapolis. After this, the Wildcat’s next daunting task will be to take on the winner of the Memphis-Brooklyn battle in the Elite Eight. If fortune favors them, they will punch their way into the Final Four to lock horns against the victor between East and West regions.
It’s been 9 years since Kentucky last fancied their chances in the Final Four. Nonetheless, they have a great chance this time around to come out as dark horses of the South region. Fans are hopeful that they get to witness a ‘Cinderella Story’ from them in the upcoming days.
