The Lady Tigers made a promising start to the game with an early lead. Suddenly, the reigning NCAA champions suffered a major blow in the opening minutes of the game. Unfortunately, their talented No.5 Sa’myah Smith fell to the court holding on to her knee in the first quarter. The sophomore forward took an awkward fall which created quite a scare. Following this, she was rushed out immediately and later received medical attention. Although, the nature and extent of her injury are not clear yet.
According to the latest sources, the sophomore forward injured her right knee during the game. After a while, the John Gray gymnasium saw her benched with her right knee completely strapped. Evidently, head coach Kim Mulkey wasn’t taking any chances and she wasted no time substituting her. However, she couldn’t keep herself out of the game as she provided a moral boost to her team sitting on the sidelines.

Sa’myah Smith’s earlier injury
The 5-star forward Sa’Myah Smith has dealt with serious injuries before. In December 2019, the talented forward suffered from an ACL injury during the championship game at the Meadows Classic. Following this, she was out of action for approximately 9 months. In addition to this, Smith was forced to miss the AAU ball the following summer. Nonetheless, Sa’Myah didn’t let her injury dishearten her as she engaged herself in the team’s practice sessions. Furthermore, she remained physically and mentally active during her rehab and became flexible again in a very short span of time. However, the advent of the coronavirus pandemic delayed her comeback.
The LSU locker room will have a tense environment even after their dominant victory over the Purple Eagles. However, fans will be hoping that her injury is not critical and will expect to see her in action soon. Furthermore, with no signs of Reese returning to the team, we will have to wait and see what the other options are left for head coach Kim Mulkey.
