It was Louisiana vs. Louisiana and things turned ugly. The Lady Tigers put up a brave effort to win against ULL 85-57 in the PMAC. It was never supposed to be hard but the way LSU went about it, especially with some injuries leaving players on the bench, raised some eyebrows. Nevertheless, the most harrowing moment of the night came when Aneesah Morrow went down with an apparent right knee injury in the first quarter.

Coming into contact with UL’s Jasmine Matthews, both went down hard, but Morrow curled to her left side, clutching her knee in intense pain. There has been no update about the situation yet, but LSU’s associate head coach, Bob Starkey, did say in the postgame interview, “She just hit it hard on the bone on the floor. It wasn’t anything structural or with her ligament or anything, it kind of split the skin there a little bit.”

As she went down, the crowd at home went quiet with worry, and Morrow was eventually taken back to the locker room to be evaluated. However, spirits seemed to lift as she was brought out back just a few minutes later with tape around not just her knee but also her wrist and thumb. Since Morrow returned to the court with 1:33 on the clock, it may be that the injury is not serious.

Nevertheless, as Starkey pointed out, “But you know, anytime a player hits the floor it’s a concern. And certainly with Nees, she plays so hard.”

It was a good night for No. 4 LSU overall as they continued their unbeaten 13-0 run in the season. Morrow recorded her 1oth double-double, with 15 points and 15 rebounds, making it her third game consecutive game with at least 15 rebounds. She also grabbed a tough rebound at the start of the fourth quarter, scoring yet another putback and converting a free throw to mark her 10th double-double of the season.

And yet, some would say it was Jersey Wolfenbarger who was the star of the night.

Kim Mulkey changes things up with Aneesah Morrow and Jersey Wolfenbarger

With some players missing time on the court due to injuries, coach Kim Mulkey had some shuffling to do. With Aneesah Morrow providing a strong presence, junior Jersey Wolfenbarger also joined her in the starting lineup. This made it the fifth different starting five combinations through 12 games so far this season for Mulkey’s squad.

Wolfenbarger, who scored a career-high 18 points and 15 rebounds, said afterward, “I think just making sure physically and mentally I am staying ready for whatever opportunities Coach (Kim Mulkey) throws at me kind of motivated my performance today. My approach to every game is the exact same. I think today, just understanding that my role looks a little different starting; I had to start quick, I had to start strong, I had to do the little things.”

Next up, it will be a homecoming for Aneesah Morrow as the LSU Tigers play their first true road game of the season at Illinois-Chicago. Since there is no other information from the school, it should be assumed that Morrow will join the Lady Tigers and it will be business as usual.
