But the Bulldogs haven’t just been winning games- they have been winning games in dominant fashion. While the eye test was enough to win most people over, there are concrete numbers now to explain the level of dominance that the Bulldogs have functioned on. With their ten-point win over the BYU Cougars, Gonzaga notched their 23rd consecutive win by double digits or more, the longest such streak in 60 years.

Along with that, they are just the fifth team to have made it through an unbeaten regular season in the last 45 seasons. However, none of the other times would end up winning it, with the last unbeaten team to win the NCAA Tournament being the Indiana Hoosiers in 1976.

If the NCAA followed a similar format to the NBA, everyone should beat money on the Gonzaga Bulldogs. They have the best makeup in the NCAA and no team could beat them in a seven-game series. However, the beauty of tournament basketball is that one loss can end a team’s season. The Bulldogs could be crushing the competition and be upset in the Sweet Sixteen and see their title dreams crushed.
The random nature of the NCAA tournament games is what makes them exciting. Everyone tunes in and most casual fans hope they can see the magic of a college basketball tournament upset. There have been plenty of them, and unbeaten teams seem to get beat, eventually.
