Not many would have put their money on Clemson to have a deep run in March Madness. Well, now that they have put their money where their mouth is, few would argue that they can go even further. After toppling New Mexico and No.3 Baylor in their opening rounds, the Tigers now have a golden opportunity to headline the NCAA’s Final Four for the first time in the program’s history.

The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, witnessed one of the other Cinderella stories for the night when Clemson took down No.2 Arizona and punched their way into their second-ever regional finals. Following this, many are backing them to go one step further and do something that has never been done before.

Soon after the Tigers accomplished this monumental feat, a buzz started circulating around social media. Apparently, it’s regarding their chances in their upcoming battle. Popular basketball content creator and podcast host Jon Rothstein was among the many to throw his hat in the ring. To put forth his say on the subject, he posted a tweet on X. He said, “REMEMBER: Clemson has already won this season ON THE ROAD at both Alabama and North Carolina. Regardless of opponent on Saturday, the Tigers are more than capable of getting to the Final Four for the first time EVER.”

As it turns out, this was in reply to an earlier tweet which read, “Clemson lost three of its last four games prior to the NCAA Tournament. It has since controlled games back-to-back-to-back against New Mexico, Baylor, and Arizona. A masterclass by Brad Brownell. Anarchy? Nope. Just College Basketball.”

What happened when Clemson faced Alabama previously?

Both these teams have locked horns once very early in the season. Before their respective Conference campaigns kicked in, the Tigers faced Alabama in the ACC/SEC Challenge. Outgunned and Outshined, the Crimson Tides were handed an 85-77 defeat because of their inability to contain P.J. Hall. The 6’10” center was able to register 21 points and shoot 6 of 11 from the field. In addition to this, he converted 6 out of his 7 free throw attempts. As for Alabama, Mark Sear’s game-high 23 points proved insufficient in the end.

Till now, we have only seen Clemson’s fierce face as their Tigers reign over the 2024 March Madness. With two Cinderella stories already authored in their name, it will be interesting to see if they can write one more and reserve a seat in the Final Four. Who knows, they just might be the ones to stop UConn from grabbing their consecutive trophy.
