Gampel Pavilion must have been disappointed. The University of Connecticut Lady Huskies lost a game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at home. However, the mere consolation for them would have to watch a former UConn player at the stadium ready to cheer them up during the halftime. The atmosphere was electric when the player took the center stage.
Their beloved athlete and current WNBA star Breanna Stewart marked her presence during mid-game which received wide appreciation from fans. And her words were met with a humongous roar.

Stewart was present at the Gampel Pavilion during the UConn’s game against the Notre Dame on Saturday. She came onto the court to cheer the crowd and addressed them at half-time. The game was poised with the Fighting Irish leading with a margin of 44-35, and the spectators might have got the necessary break that would have delighted them.
“Hello, UConn!!,” Stewart addressed the crowd and was met with a round of applause. “I just wanna say thankyou,” she continued,”so much for all your support when we were obviously in school and till now when we will be a lot louder tonight when we get our ship back together. But..,” she paused for a brief moment. “Let’s go!!”
With this people can surely recollect Stewart’s time with the University of Connecticut Huskies. She was in the college for four years from 2012-16. She clinched the national championship title four times during that period. And on Saturday, her team was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Coupled with game strategies from their head coach Geno Auriemma, Stewart became the frontrunner in her program’s explosive success on the women’s basketball stage. Her best two years in terms of points came during the 2014 and 2016 seasons when she besotted an average of 19.4 points per game in both these years.

Stewart must have reminisced about those moments when at the Huskies. And also she is a crowd favorite for giving them those golden years. But unfortunately, Stewart’s prophesy did not bear fruit.
What happened next?
The Uconn were defeated by a 67-82 margin at home. It was a close clash in which the UConn were trumped in the fourth quarter by a 10-22 margin. Their players namely forward Aaliyah Edwards and guard Paige Bueckers were the top players for the team with 23 and 17 points respectively. For Bueckers’ performance, their head coach had also commented that she wasn’t in her complete domination mode because she got a hit on her face in this game.

Hopefully, the UConn can resolve their issues and get back again. They can also borrow a leaf from Stewart’s book and get some guidance from her to go on winning sprees in this tournament.
