The basketball world is buzzing after news broke that Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis are reportedly swapping teams, a trade that could reshape the landscape of the NBA. Such is the gravity of this move that it has completely overshadowed a big win for Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies!
Solo Ball erupted for a career-high 25 points, going 7-of-9 from beyond the arc as the Huskies beat Marquette 77-69. Alex Karaban chipped in with 15, while Samson Johnson added 13 as UConn built a commanding 22-point first-half lead. Despite Marquette’s push, the Huskies had an answer for every comeback attempt, sealing a dominant win for 8-3 conference record.
Despite what transpired, it wasn’t enough of a topic of conversation. As analysts on The Field Of 68: After Dark delved into UConn’s dominant performance, the excitement was cut short when breaking news of the trade sent shockwaves through the basketball world.

You could see the excitement in everyone’s faces in the room when Mike LaTulip broke the news about the trade. Rob Dauster had just asked him a question around the Huskies’ performance without Liam McNeely when the news came out. But they couldn’t return to the conversation.
A shocked Jeff Goodman stepped in with, ” I wanna break down this trade, forget about UConn.” When Jeff steers the conversation away from college hoops to dissect a trade, you know it’s a major shake-up in the basketball world!

But Mike did share his insights about the UConn game after regaining composure. ” Important win obviously for UConn. I think Big E standings, NCAA tournament seedings, all that, yes. But also important I think because it kind of reaffirms to this team tonight we heard Hurley in the huddle that when you play desperate, when you play tough, when you guard the way they guard, we know how capable they are offensively.”
Mike LaTulip may have praised UConn’s offensive firepower, but the reality is their recent struggles go beyond defense. In their showdown against Marquette, the Huskies coughed up a season-high 25 turnovers, which the Golden Eagles turned into 29 points, an alarming stat. If these issues aren’t addressed, UConn’s dream of a three-peat looks bleak!
But now that the Huskies have gotten a big win over a ranked opponent, all eyes are on their next matchup as they aim to build on this momentum.
What’s next for Dan Hurley and the Huskies
The Huskies will look to extend their current two-match winning streak as they host another ranked opponent in St. John’s Red Storm. Ranked 15th in the table with a 19-3 overall record and a 10-1 Big East record, the match certainly won’t be an easy one for Dan Hurley and his men.
ESPN gives the Huskies a 66.8% chance to pull off another win, standing 7-3 in their last ten matchups against the Red Storm. Moreover, Dan Hurley seems to have provided a positive news just in time for the clash– Freshman Liam McNeely is close to making a return. It could be against St. John’s on Friday. “Liam will be at full strength as long as there are no setbacks,” he said, following the game against Marquette.
With a break ahead of the next game, the Huskies are looking to return in full strength. Ahmad Nowell and Hassan Diarra have been suffering ankle and leg issue, respectively, but Hurley is positive they can return healthier soon. The game tips off at 8:00 pm on the 7th.
While Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis may have stolen the spotlight now, Huskies, on their way for the 3-peat, won’t be slipping off a conversation easily.
