Did Flau'jae Johnson just snub Barack Obama for Adele and J. Cole?

Barack Obama has been snubbed! Flau’jae Johnson, who is getting ready for tip-off on Nov. 4 with the LSU Tigers, is coming off a great year in music. The basketball player slash rapper had one of her most successful career moments when she released a song with Lil Wayne in June. Johnson’s recent podcast hosts even had her planning an appearance with the former POTUS but the 20-year-old star has chosen a British singer instead!

Johnson, along with UConn Huskies’ Paige Bueckers, had the chance to coach up-and-coming Overtime Select, a high school basketball league aimed at preparing top recruits. In one on-court interview, a reporter asks Johnson, “Who was your dream feature?” on her EP Best of Both Worlds. To which the 20-year-old replies, “Adele. I need that feature, I love Adele.”

The British singer with a net worth of $220 million would be a huge win for Johnson. And her dream guest for her podcast? Kim Mulkey’s star player chose another rapper! “J. Cole, I wanna talk to him, get some of that wisdom. J. Cole if you watching, I need you on the pod man.” Just yesterday Johnson’s podcast, with the same name as her EP, had a different conversation going on.

On the latest episode of Best of Both Worlds, Johnson sat down with Aces star Sydney Colson and former LSU player Theresa Plaisance. When the conversation turned to music, Plaisance suggested, “I would say like if we could literally choose anybody I feel like the Obamas. I don’t know if you saw him in Detroit, but he came out rapping Eminem. I’m like ‘if we had Obama coming on matching our energy.'”

Colson agreed, “Oh, Obama and Flau’jae. Obama you imagine in a studio,” and so did the Tigers guard, “Yeah… yeah. That would be crazy.” The former POTUS had appeared in a rally promoting presidential candidate Kamala Harris in Detroit recently. And before introducing Eminem to speak on the stage, Obama had rapped a line from the rapper’s “Lose Yourself”, “I notice my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy…”

No doubt Plaisance and Colson chose him for Flau’jae. But it looks like the LSU guard has changed her tune! While she has expressed her wishes about collaborating with J. Cole before, she likely won’t forget the time Lil Wayne agreed to a collab anytime soon!

Lil Wayne FaceTimed Flau’jae Johnson and she went “crazy”

Have an interesting take?

Excelling at two things professionally at the highest level comes almost naturally to Flau’jae Johnson. Her basketball skills have only improved playing in purple and gold in the last two years, and the 20-year-old has also elevated her music game. So when a chance to combine her two passions and collaborate with a 5x Grammy award-winning artist presented itself, of course, Johnson grabbed it.

“He FaceTimed me and I was like, ‘It’s Lil Wayne, oh my gosh’…I’m going crazy. He called me and was like, ‘Yeah, I did a verse. Let me know what you think. Let me know if you’re messin’ with it’… You said the verse, I don’t care what it sounds like,” Johnson said previously.

‘Came Out Like a Beast’ was such a hit song that Lakers stars practiced it in the background and the NFL included it in their 2024 Songs of the Season. Honoring LSU’s top names like Shaquille O’Neal, Joe Burrow, and Angel Reese, Flau’jae Johnson hit it out of the park with Lil Wayne, and even if Obama is not her top choice for a feature right now, we might get to see him sometime in the future on a tracklist!
