It is a rare sight for college basketball fans to witness any player dominate the court as a freshman. Only a handful of players have been able to leave a lasting impression with their skills during their debut season. Well, we are lucky enough to experience such brilliance from USC’s JuJu Watkins.

However, there is someone from her past who is not at all surprised by what the 18-year-old has accomplished in her freshman season. After all, Watkins’ High School Head Coach got to witness her growth first hand. Luckily, EssentiallySports was able to learn more about this wonder kid in an exclusive.

Alicia Komaki believes JuJu Watkins will be legendary

Apparently, JuJu Watkins has left no stone unturned in letting everyone know the kind of talent she possesses.  The 6 ft 2 point guard has been brisking her way through the freshman records set by some of the legendary names in college basketball. After speaking with her High School coach Alicia Komaki, it seems she expected something like this from her very early on.

In an exclusive interview to EssentiallySports, Komaki was pretty clear that JuJu Watkins is destined for greatness. She said, “JuJu is going to accomplish everything she wishes to during her collegiate career, she is that good and has that mindset. She wants to be legendary, so she will be.” 

These words don’t come as a surprise to many as Watkins has surpassed her hype and expectations. Moreover, some popular observers of the sport have even gone on to draw parallels between her and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, LeBron James. Well, there appears to be some truth to it as JuJu has the ability to completely tear apart any opposition’s defense like King James. Additionally, her habit of headlining the team’s scoresheet is also something that defines LBJ.

Consequently, this begs a question in everyone’s mind- what makes JuJu Watkins so special?

What sets JuJu apart from the others?

It’s been a while since the Trojans have had a physical specimen like Watkins. As it turns out, the athletic prowess of USC’s No.12 can give any athlete a run for their money. Moreover, her natural ability to score big is enough to embarrass any team.

She not only is an efficient baller from the field but she also knows how to accurately land 3 points from beyond the arc. Also, it has been an almost impossible task for the opposition to restrict Watkins’ movements and stop her scoring from the tight spots.

JuJu surely brings the phrase so far so good to everyone’s mind. There is no question that this immaculate athlete on the USC roster is going to go big. However, it will be interesting to see if the teenagers can maintain the same form in all her seasons as a collegiate basketball player.
