No one thought Hubert Davis would make it to March Madness, yet here we are! After a stomping victory against the San Diego State Aztecs, UNC is through to the first round of March Madness. This was a shock to the entire basketball world, as people weren’t even expecting UNC to make the First Four. But the Tar Heels pulled off what many thought was impossible!

And it was an RJ Davis show against the Aztecs! The six-foot-four point guard defied all odds, and put up some legendary numbers last night in the 95-68 victory. He dropped 26 points on the biggest stage imaginable for his team, and not only that, he shot 100% from three! His shooting clinic from deep sealed any hopes of victory for San Diego State, as they lost by 27 points.

The tides have changed for North Carolina, as they have gone from a team on the wrong end of the bubble with just 1 Quad 1 victory, to a genuine contender for the national title this year. Analysts believe that UNC can cause quite a few upsets, and some former national coaches stand in support of the Chapel Hill boys as well.

On The Dan Patrick Show, ex-Syracuse head coach and Hall-of-Famer Jim Boeheim stood behind Hubert Davis’ crew. The legendary coach made it obvious he was rooting for UNC–he even wore their colors! “I pick North Carolina to go all the way in the tournament this year.” He said, talking about how the Tar Heels team is a lot better than the public gives them credit for.

With their Quad 1 failings aside, UNC created a lot of momentum in the last month and a half of the regular season. And with how they’ve been playing recently? Their spot in the round of 64 is quite deserved. Jim Boeheim, it seemed, agreed.

Not only that, he had a special note for the nay-sayers who spoke out against North Carolina. “And everybody in the country says they shouldn’t be in. They look at one metric, they don’t look at the fact that they’re ahead of the bubble teams, or ahead of the last four teams in the overall combined metrics.” Boeheim said, drawing attention to how well UNC had actually been playing at the end. Their numbers weren’t as bad as they were made out to be, and they proved it in their First Four dominance.

However, what’s next for the Tar Heels? They’re through to the NCAA Tournament as the eleventh seed, and will be set to face Ole Miss on Saturday. Can Hubert Davis upset the hopes of many this weekend? Can UNC triumph over Ole Miss? Let’s find out.

What can we expect from Hubert Davis and UNC in their first round matchup?

They’ve did it! UNC is through to the first round of the Tournament! But what now? Well, Hubert Davis and his squad are going to face #6 Ole Miss on Saturday. Not only that, we might be looking at an upset in the first round itself!

ESPN has the Tar Heels winning against the Rebels on Saturday! Their matchup predictor has given Hubert Davis’ team a 56.3% chance of victory over Ole Miss. And it’s a fair assessment too! The North Carolina big men have been on top of their game recently, with Jae’Lyn Withers and Lubin taking over the paint nearly every night. The Ole Miss team, surprisingly enough, has a worse overall record than UNC at this point in time. North Carolina stands at 23-13, while the Rebels are a game behind at 22-11. Not only that, everyone knows that UNC has the potential to be a championship team.
