Leading their recent game by 23 points early in the fourth quarter, the Horned Frogs shot 50% from the field and beyond the arc. Three of the four players scored in double figures, but Baylor’s Jaden Owen is the one who stole the show with an impressive double-double.

The 2023 calendar year concluded with the Horned Frogs in the best possible shape. Against BYU, No. 23 TCU defeated them 81-67 on Saturday in Schollmaier Arena to start Big 12 action. Ahead of a ranked vs. ranked matchup at No. 10, the Horned Frogs increased their season record to 14-0, three victories short of the greatest winning run in TCU basketball history.

Jaden Owens’ impressive gameplay

TCU’s 5-11 guard was responsible for half of the team’s field goals, and she made 4 out of 7 attempts from beyond the arc. Jaden Owens was the top scorer for TCU, achieving her third double-double with 10 assists and a career-high 14 points. Her total of 60 assists in December is the highest number of assists by any player in the nation.

In five of her last six games, Owens has contributed 10 or more assists. Owens transferred to TCU after spending two seasons at Baylor and using the UCLA transfer site. She is a 2019 graduate of Plano West High School and the daughter of Harold and Tori Owens.

Owens’ two older sisters, Devri and Callie, also played Division I basketball. Devri played at SMU from 2013 to 2016 and Utah from 2016 to 2018. From 2016 to 2017, Callie played for Pacific, and from 2017 to 2021, she played for UNT. Owens is a unanimous five-star recruit from Plano West High School and is ranked as the third guard and fourteenth overall talent in the 2019 class by ESPN.

She was named a 2019 Jordan Brand Classic All-American and a McDonald’s All-American. Owens was selected for the TX UIL All-State squad her senior year, with an average of 16.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game. She was named District 6-6A co-offensive player of the year as a junior, with an average of 20.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.7 steals per game.

Owens’ Baylor career

Jaden Owen played for the Baylor Bears women’s basketball team for three seasons, participating in 81 games. Throughout her tenure, she averaged 4.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. In the 2022-2023 season, she started as the team’s primary ball handler in 30 out of 32 games and had a career-high average of eight points, 5.8 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game.

She led the team in assists per game and total assists, ranking in the top 20 nationally in both categories. She finished her senior season ranked 15th in assists per game and 16th in total assists. Owen had notable performances, including a double-double with 12 assists and 11 points in her first collegiate start.
