The Hurley family is a gift that keeps on giving. Celebrated Arizona State head coach, Robert Matthew (Bobby) Hurley, the brother of UConn’s Dan Hurley, once graced the silver screens in what could have been an alternate career. The drama film involving other popular faces of the basketball world, like coach Bobby Knight, Shaquille O’Neal, and Bob Cousy, had a cameo role for the Arizona State coach. But why did he move away from this aspiration?
Bobby Hurley had a great career as a hooper. Hence, he had least to no interest in trailing the Hollywood path. However, he also did not give the incoming opportunity a cold shoulder. Hurley gave glimpses of his acting chops, or perhaps, just a punt at the craft, in the 1994 sports thriller, Blue Chips. According to the script, he was an Indiana player who would lock horns with the Western University Dolphins. Ed O’Neill and Nick Nolte were also in the ensemble to round off the cast as well.
Bobby Hurley, however, seems to have taken no further roles in acting. Interestingly, he is also not the only Hurley who has dabbled in cinema. Their sister Melissa Hurley is also an actress and has worked in some absolute classics, including the likes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Running Man.

Hurley’s NBA career was also short-lived. Hence, Bobby fixated on his aim to develop young basketball aspirants just like his father. Within 10 years as a professional baller, he took up the opportunity to become an assistant coach at Wagner. Here, his younger brother Dan Hurley was the head coach. Hence, with the development of their careers, the two brothers turned into rival coaches on the court.
Dan Hurley and Bobby Hurley: A peek into the Hurley family
Bobby Hurley is married to Leslie Palceski. They have two daughters and a son. While not much is known about the three siblings Cameron, Sydney, and Bobby, their cousin Andrew is currently under his dad’s guidance at UConn. But when we talk about the relationship between the two coach-Hurleys, there is nothing but love.

In fact, Bobby Hurley has been to many of Dan and Co.’s games. Reciprocating, UConn’s coach has also taken his older brother’s stand saying that he values his position at Arizona State and that if he has the resources that we do, he too can be in the Final Four.
Bobby Hurley said earlier this week that he is rolling out "the red carpet treatment here at Arizona State for my brother." Dan Hurley discussed the benefits and potential Bobby has at ASU:

While Bobby tries to bring the Sun Devils back on track, looks like he will ditch any other movie offer. But until then, we know he is going to relish the fact that his younger brother has won back-to-back trophies, bringing the UConn MBB program to another level of excellence.
