Last season, the NCAA women’s basketball final between LSU and the University of Iowa took an unexpected turn when a rivalry between Angel Reese, an LSU forward, and Caitlin Clark, an Iowa forward, became the center of attention. In the Final seconds of the match, when LSU’s victory was assured, Angel Reese made a Cena-inspired hand gesture ‘You can’t see me‘ that went viral and sparked controversy which said that Reese was ‘classless’.

Interestingly, Caitlin Clark had done a similar thing earlier without any negative reaction and even got praised for it. During this ongoing controversy, Stephen A. Smith took a stand by supporting Clark but also questioning the different responses. He pointed out a potential racial bias, where Clark’s actions were celebrated, but Reese faced criticism.

He said, “We all know that there’s a white-black issue here because the fact of the matter is when Caitlin did it, people were celebrating it, and they were talking about nothing but her greatness. Then the second a sister stepped up and threw it back in her face, now you have to have the basketball world saying, ‘Well you know what, that’s not the classiest thing to do’.”

Even though Reese and Clark have never openly admitted to being enemies, the tension between them can be felt by the fans.
