Although Bruce Pearl didn’t make a name for himself as a player, his journey into college basketball coaching began in 1978, when popular head coach Tom Davis offered him a student assistant post at Boston College. Pearl stayed involved with the team throughout college, even stepping in as the Eagle mascot when the regular student performer fell ill.

When Davis transitioned to Stanford in 1982, Pearl joined him as an assistant coach and eventually rose to the position of associate head coach. This move solidified Pearl’s path into the coaching world. He worked alongside Davis during his tenure with the Stanford Cardinal.
