The North Carolina Tar Heels are on an exceptional run, firmly planting their feet in the NCAA tournament. The No.17 ranked Tar Heels have bounced back following their narrow defeat against Villanova with back-to-back victories. However, a late onslaught by the visitors last night created quite a scare in UNC’s locker room.
Regardless, the UNC held on to their nerves in the final moments of the game and secured a 100-92 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. The standout performer nevertheless is Tennessee’s No. 3–Dalton Knecht. He stole the show with his prolific scoring and ended the night with 37 points.
UNC survives a late onslaught led by Dalton Knecht

The Tar Heels were all over Tennessee in the opening half of the match. The 22-year-old guard RJ Davis did the bulk of their scoring in the first half. As a result, UNC led Tennessee 61-39 in the first half. The talented No.4 was the top scorer for UNC with 27 points and 4 rebounds along with 2 assists.
Power forward Armando Bacot wasn’t far behind as he played second fiddle to Davis. The towering athlete had the second-best figures and scored his 71st career double-double. He had 22 points and 11 rebounds next to his name. In addition to this, forward Harrison Ingram also chipped in and made valuable contributions. He provided much-needed support to Davis and Bacot ending his outing on 20 points and 6 rebounds.
The Tennessee Volunteers stormed back into the second half of the game on the back of an inspired fightback led by their dynamic guard Dalton Knecht. Combining with Josiah-Jordan James, the duo added 57 points to the scorecard for Tennessee. Moreover, forward Jonas Aldo also stepped up and was the third Tennessee baller to have a double-digit score with 13 points. Unfortunately, it was all too much for them in the second half as they faltered by 8 points in the end.
The Tennessee Volunteers have plenty of positives to take from the game despite their loss.
Dalton Knecht roars out loud
The Volunteers came very close to handing the hosts their second loss of their season. A lot of credit should be given to their senior guard Dalton Knecht. The 6 ft 6 in baller put on quite an exhibition for the home crowd with his immaculate skills. The 22-year-old even got the crowd off their feet in the second half.

The Dean Smith Center acknowledged his valiant effort as he received a standing ovation after the game. Dalton is having a quality season so far averaging 17.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Additionally, he carries an impressive field goal percentage of 45 this season.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are having a decent start to their season with their (6-1) record so far in the tournament. They have shown tremendous character in their last game and came out on top. Following this, fans will be hoping they carry their momentum in their next game against Florida on Sunday.
