The Washington State Cougars earned another impressive victory at home. In their 6th Conference game, they took down the Arizona Wildcats 78-57 at a sold-out at the Beasley Coliseum. Consequently, this resounding win places them at the 7th place below USC at the Pac-12 Conference with a 50% win record.

However, an unexpected turn of events may somehow impact the Cougars’ victory in a negative light. A nasty fall of their powerful center Bella Murekatete has added some injury woes in their locker room.

Washington State was cruising after a marginal lead over the Wildcats by half-time. As a result, they decided to further extend their lead and started picking up pace. Following this, Eleonora Villa attempted a beyond-the-arc shot which got deflected off the rim and was grabbed by the No.55 Bella Murekatete. Unfortunately, she lost her balance while passing the ball to her teammate and fell hard onto the hardwood. Moreover, on her way down, the 23-year-old hit her head on the hardwood.

Soon after her fall, the officials paused the game for a while. After this, she was surrounded by her teammates and some coaching staff along with the team’s athletic trainer Taylor Howick. After some time, Taylor got Murekatete to her feet and later helped make her way out of the court for further evaluation. Meanwhile, no official statement has been released by the team management on her current condition.

Bella still managed to help her team bag a win after her bad fall. Evidently, Murekatete’s double-double got the Cougars over the line.

Team effort earns a worthy victory

Despite the unanticipated incident, Bella Murekatete ended up with second-best figures for Washington State. Undoubtedly, she is already a good player with seventh standing in Pac-12 for total rebounds. In the game, Bella managed to make a decent 16 points and 11 rebounds. Supporting her was her teammate Leger-Walker who also pushed the Cougars to victory with 10 points and 11 assists. The team was led in points by their No. 1 guard, Tara Wallack, with 20 points.

The Washington State Cougars are proving to have all the potential to be a better team this season. It takes tremendous courage to move past the roadblocks that are injuries. Further, the team contributed sufficiently to easily get the better of Arizona Wildcats. Fans can only hope for a quick recovery back to full health for Bella Murekatete.
