The South Carolina Gamecocks recently squared off against the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers in an on-road game. While the Gamecocks won the match by a 76-70 margin and extended their lead to an unbeaten 18-0 in the tournament, another thing that caught all attention was the hostile LSU crowd. The stadium was swamped with 13,205 people who weren’t in an agreeable state of mind when the Lady Tigers lost the game.

The Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley was questioned about the crowd during the postmatch presser and her response evoked much laughter not only from her fans but also from the media present there.

What did Staley say and how did Wilson respond?

Staley took a sly dig at the LSU fans by calling them out when asked about their behavior and commented that “actually they were” (crazy) and were referring to Staley by “calling me ‘Boo’.” This remark sent the media personnel on a round of healthy laughter and Staley too made clear her point albeit in a comic fashion. The video for the same was circulated on popular social media networking sites.

As was expected, the video gained a lot of traction and former South Carolina Gamecocks star A’ja Wilson too jumped on the bandwagon by sharing her views on Staley’s reply. Notably, Wilson played for the Gamecocks from 2014-2018 and was popular during her time that she also has a statue erected for her on the campus.

Wilson tagged her former college-level head coach and lauded her for her humor. “So corny 😂😂😂 but this was a good one @dawnstaley,” Wilson stated. Not holding back from admitting that the reply was banal from her side.

Staley on another note had accepted that she hadn’t seen so many people in a regular game and so much excitement from the fans was “something truly special.” The Pennsylvania-born was much delighted with where women’s college basketball was heading and anticipated that it was “only going to get bigger.”

However, it wasn’t just Wilson who laughed her head off, rather fans too had a great time listening to Staley’s reply.

What did the NCAA fans comment?

One fan admired Staley for her straightforward attitude: “Dawn Staley has always been a different kind of lady, on a different level and unapologetically Dawn.”

Another remembered her Philadelphia roots and pointed out the same stating “That response came from the PHILLY in you!! Don’t EVER play wit us!! 🤣😂🤣🔥”

One fan who wasn’t much impressed divulged that “Probably the first time I’ve heard her make a joke lol”

Another account addressed the fact that she had interrupted the journalist remarking “She definitely was waiting to use that line 😂😂😂” 

One more fan declared that the “Coach is awesome!”

Probably, Wilson and Staley would also have shared a laugh together if they had talked in private. And with Gamecocks performing so well this season, it will only delight Wilson and fans of the team.
