Dawn Staley’s net worth is estimated to be around $12 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. And it’s not just from her time spent as a WNBA star or her long list of accolades as a player. A big amount of her fortune comes from her coaching career.

Back in 2021, the 54-year-old signed a contract with the University of South Carolina worth $22.4 million. Currently, she is in the third year of her seven-year contract, which will conclude in the 2027-28 season. It’s no shocker that she earns around $2.9 million yearly, and even in the past season, it surpassed her regular earnings, as she earned a total of $3.1 million.

On top of that, she gets an increment of $100,000 every year. This all adds up to making her the highest-paid Black coach in women’s college basketball and one of the three women’s basketball coaches in America who earn over $3 million.

Does Dawn Staley's success redefine what it means to be a coach in women's sports?

Have an interesting take?

Through her legendary 27-year coaching career at South Carolina and Temple, she has sung to glory worth over $30 million, factoring in previous contracts, salary adjustments, and raises from prior seasons. But guess what? It doesn’t stop there. Her salary isn’t her only income source.

The Gamecocks coach’s additional income sources

Dawn Staley has other ways to bring home the bacon. All these years as a player and coach, she has never shied away from using her fame. Apart from her salary, the Hall of Famer enjoys some major bonuses. To begin with, we can consider her past incentives. The Naismith Coach of the Year Award brought her an additional $25,000. And she has won this award four times in her career.

If you think that’s quite a big number, let us tell you that reaching the Final Four promises $250,000. However, the biggest catch is when the team goes deep in the tournament, her bonuses alone can amount to $700,000. How can we forget the year 2021 when she walked away with nearly $4 million? Needless to say, it was just on paper, so maybe, just maybe, the exact amount could be much more than that.

Also, after clinching a win in the SEC Tournament and securing their spot in the NCAA Tournament, the basketball coach picked up $100,000. In the coming times, if her team continues to perform at this level with the same momentum, there is no doubt that her bonus structure will keep stacking up.

While exact figures are tricky to pin down, she collaborated with Nike and appeared in SLAM Magazine when she was a player. In fact, even last year, she was seen at major Nike events, like the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival. The WNBA legend has been associated with USA Basketball for a long time as well.

Whether as a player or coach, she’s earned multiple accolades on the international stage, which boosts her overall net worth significantly. But keeping money matters aside, her ability to ‘give’ is what makes her special. The coach is known as a philanthropist. One of the biggest examples is her Dawn Staley Foundation.

It is dedicated to helping at-risk youth in Philadelphia, where she grew up. Moreover, her work with InnerSole gives new sneakers to needy kids. This shows that Staley is definitely earning a hefty amount, but the good part is she is paying it forward, too.  So, it’s safe to say that, from her coaching genius to her philanthropic efforts, the Hall of Famer is leaving a legacy that’s worth way more than money.
