Can Dan Hurley's fiery passion lead UConn to another championship, or will it burn them out?

Dan Hurley and his Huskies are on a quest for their third championship title, and as expected, Hurley is leaving no stone unturned to make it happen. The season’s start has been nearly flawless, with two solid wins already under UConn’s belt. However, the real focus is now on extending their winning streak and building unstoppable momentum. But how can they make that happen?

For their November 13th game, UConn took to the court to face Le Moyne, one of the better offensive teams in their league. As the game progressed, so did Hurley’s intensity and emotions. “Dan Hurley’s passion is unmatched,” read a post by FOX College Hoops on X, alongside a clip capturing Hurley dramatically knocking his head on the table in frustration.

Wondering why? It all stemmed from a moment when Samson Johnson was called for a foul after Le Moyne’s #4 made a shot attempt. It might seem routine, but it was anything but normal for Hurley and the team, as this foul marked Johnson’s 10th in just the third game this season. Although it was Samson Johnson’s first game against Le Moyne, his fouls are becoming a significant concern for the team.

Being one of UConn’s key contributors, Johnson’s fouling issues are especially critical because players are eliminated from the game after five fouls—and Johnson is currently averaging 4.5 fouls per game this season. In fact, he was forced out of Game 1 against the Sacred Heart Pioneers after committing five fouls. But did you know that Hurley had already anticipated challenges?

Not Johnson’s fouls specifically, but rather Le Moyne’s formidable offense.

In fact, Le Moyne’s style of play reminds Hurley of his own early coaching days. Without a doubt, it’s the team’s offensive ability that caught Hurley’s eye. “They have skilled players and shooters, and they play smart,” Hurley said. With an average of 88 points per game, the Dolphins have managed a 1-3 record since moving up to Division 1 last year and they have given a close call to each expect the UConn today.

In a clash against SUNY Poly, Le Moyne survived with a staggering 107-point performance, marking their highest score since the 2019-2020 season. And their matchup against Syracuse was also unforgettable— the team led 41-36 half time, went back-and-forth to never let the opponent dominate in double-digit deficit, but couldn’t hold the lead into the final minutes when Chris Bell sealed the deal with 2 free throws.

They are, however, attempting 28.3 shots beyond the arc and maintaining a 32.9% shooting accuracy. Yet despite Hurley’s frustration with Johnson’s fouling, his UConn Huskies are no pushovers.

The team brought their A-game and powered past Le Moyne with a staggering 41-point lead. Now, the Huskies proudly hold a 3-0 record after delivering a commanding 90-49 defeat to Le Moyne. Will the HC set even higher standards? Stay tuned to find out!
