The 2024 NBA draft is through, with Stephon Castle, Donovan Clingan, Triston Newton, and Cam Spencer being the No. 4, No. 7, No. 49, and No. 53 draft picks, respectively. Meanwhile, UConn has been out and about, recruiting prospects to join another powerful roster for the upcoming season. This time Dan Hurley will be going for a three-peat.
However, things weren’t that clear for Hurley if we talked about, say two summers ago. It was the time when Hurley and his team had just taken a hit with a first-round disqualification in 2022. Simply put, Dan Hurley was feeling insecure about his team and whether it was capable enough to get through the national championship tournament. Let’s explore his views on the same as he gears up for another blockbuster season.

In a recent conversation with sports columnist, Gary Parrish, UConn’s men’s basketball team’s head coach joined in and walked everyone through the lens of a head coach and what he sees when his team attempts to win the national championship title.
He talked about how he felt before his team went forward to play in the 2022 NCAA tournament and said, “I remember last summer and the summer before being pretty insecure about the team, wondering if we were going to be in the playing game in Dayton or just where you always see your team’s vulnerabilities as a coach, you never quite think you’re good enough,” Hurley said, via Gary Parrish Show. He laid out his insecurities as a coach who hadn’t brought a championship to the program since he was hired.
And that perhaps fuelled his confidence as he brought an unstoppable roster for two straight seasons. Hence, UConn is the 2x NCAA champion in Division I men’s basketball. With that being said, Hurley is in his prime and there is no other way that he is going to bring home the third one.
Moving on with the conversation, Dan Hurley talked about his recent recruits and gave a glimpse of how these recruits are going to play out on the floor. He said, “But this is a talented team. I think we’re going to have the two centers again Samson Johnson is going to take another big step and then I think Tarris Reed is going to give us that one-two punch at center.”
Enlisting his roster, Dan Hurley envisions what the upcoming season might look like.
Because the third time’s a charm
UConn’s current roster can said to be, as Hurley puts it, a plethora, of multi-positional players having a body frame between 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-8, for example, Alex Karaben, Liam McNeeley, Jaylin Stewart, Jayden Ross, and Isaiah Abraham.
Boasting the team, Hurley asserts, “It’s an impressive group that way and then I think the year will come down to guard play whether we can be the best team in the country again it’s going to come down to like Diarra and solo ball and Aiden and can these guys give us close to what we’ve been getting at the guard spots because three through five is probably going to be just as good or better than what we’ve had at those like at those positions but it looks pretty good to me,” as he visions out how games will take shape in the upcoming season.
