Surprise took the crowd at Mackey Arena when Purdue’s big boy made a big shot against rival Indiana, causing a craze on Saturday night. Edey confidently pulled up for a three-pointer with just over six minutes remaining in a game where Purdue, ranked second, had a comfortable lead over Indiana.

Later in the second half of the game, Edey made his first-ever three-pointer in his college career. It’s the only milestone left for him. Despite not frequently attempting shots from beyond the arc, Edey took a shot from the top of the key when the Boilermakers were leading by over 20 points. The crowd erupted in cheers as Edey’s shot found its mark.

“I’m the best shooter in the country. It was big. We owed them after last year. I and the seniors all felt that this was our last time to come out with that fire, and that’s what we did,” Zach Edey spoke about his three-pointer. Previously, Edey had a career record of 0-1 when shooting 3-pointers. As of Saturday, he had amassed the greatest career points of any Division I player still playing without a 3-point field goal—2,065 to be exact.
