The legendary sportscaster has shared an update on his cancer situation and the basketball world seems to be elated. The 85-year-old Dick Vitale has had four kinds of the deadly disease in the past three years but the situation seems to be improving. But what’s this positive update that has the basketball fans buzzing? Let’s find out.

Vitale posted a picture of his medical examination on X. His caption said, “Just had scope of my vocal cords & I was very emotional with the great report by Dr ZEITELS. He said the vocal cords are cancer free & he feels I can return to my love of being at courtside for @espn”. 

The positive cancer update has brought us close to once again hearing the legendary commentator live. Last summer, Vitale was diagnosed with cancerous lymph nodes in his neck. He was unable to speak for some time after his surgery and 30 radiation treatments.

Now that he is finally showing signs of being back, fans are looking forward to his return.

Although this news was long-anticipated as Vitale posted a similar update in December. “SANTA CLAUS came early as Dr Rick Brown called & said that my PET SCAN at 7 AM came back CLEAN OF CANCER !“, posted Vitale on X last month.

ESPN’s ‘vital’ sportscaster has not called a game since 2022 but he never gave up on his passion to return courtside. His journey of battle against cancer has been inspiring, coupled with the fact that he has actively participated in organized efforts against cancer. Fans elated after positive cancer update by Vitale

Vitale will be returning to the courtside after 3 years, a long-awaited return for fans. “Congrats Coach, you are a rock star stud !! God Bless”, reacted a fan of the health update. Vitale had a coaching career of 16 years before he started working as a commentator. He also spent a year coaching the Detroit Pistons back in 1978.

Vitale is known for catchphrases like “This is awesome, baby!” and “diaper dandy” to denote an outstanding freshman player. His commentary theatrics are a part of the sport itself. “Great news Dick! Can’t wait to hear your voice again!” said another fan with the same spirit as the lively commentator himself who’s had a tenure of more than 40 years with ESPN.

“God Bless You and get back to it.”, added another fan, praying for Vitale’s better health. People have been praying for his recovery since his diagnosis a few years ago. Comments like, “Awesome news. I cannot wait to see you back courtside” have showered on his post.

Dick Vitale’s last broadcasting appearance was in 2022 in a Kentucky and Michigan State Champions classic game. The iconic broadcaster has already beat melanoma and lymphoma and now he has beaten his laryngeal cancer. He has been vocal about his intention to return as a broadcaster and give fans what they want.
