The playmaking intensity of the women’s basketball teams is increasing day by day. However, with it the pressure to lead and stay strong is also looming in parallel, bringing the huge possibility of injuries and fouls with itself. One such situation surfaced when Washington State’s guard Charlisse Leder-Walker suffered a dastardly injury during a recent game leaving her teammates dumbfounded.
Although, the Cougars did manage to get a win against #2 UCLA, however, it’s Walker’s injury that is concerning them the most at this crucial turn of the season.
Leger-Walker’s twisted stumble

The matchup between the Washington State Cougars and #2 UCLA Bruins took a significant turn when the Cougars guard Charlisse Leger-Walker’s right knee bent the wrong way while she was trying to make a shot. She fell into the realization of the pain and couldn’t complete her shot. She stayed down in pain, grabbing her leg around the knee.
Her teammates repeatedly gazed at her in concern, and her injury didn’t look like a good sign as she is one of the best players on the Cougars’ roster. A few moments later she was helped off the court and taken to the locker room. Notably, it was a non-contact injury, with only 7:30 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
In this matchup, Leger-Walker contributed 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in the 19 minutes of playtime. Also, she shot with a field goal percentage of 77.8% including 50% of 3-point shots and 100% of free throws. Talking about her performance this season, she has been averaging 13.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.3 assists (ranking 37th) per game, with a field goal percentage of 40.2%.

The Cougars pulled off an upset
After taking a fresh defeat from the USC Trojans, Washington State was looking to bounce back well. So, what’s better than beating a Top-25 team? And that too on their home court. Notably, the Cougars kept pushing and took over the Bruins in an 85-82 upset win.

Contributing to the score, Bella Murekatete hooped 20 points with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Followed by Eleonora Villa adding 18 points with a rebound and 3 assists, and Tara Wallack scored 14 points with 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Charlisse Leger-Walker logged in her share of contribution before suffering the injury during the second quarter.
Guided by Kamie Ethridge as their head coach, the Cougars now have a conference record of 4-4 and an overall record of 15 wins and 6 losses. These stats place them somewhere in the middle of the Pac-12 Conference standings.
