UConn, we see you! Even in the face of adversity, the Huskies are refusing to give up without a fight. Dan Hurley’s team were the underdogs coming into the game against Florida but they quickly proved why they’re on the verge of a three-peat. Even though they made mistakes, and even though they lost, the Huskies battled to the very end!

However, all eyes were on Dan Hurley during this matchup. The UConn head coach has been subject to a lot of criticism and trolling this year for his run-ins with the officials. Once a very well-liked coach, public perception changed in the blink of an eye for Hurley this season.

Unlike the Bob Knight era, today’s social media amplifies every Hurley outburst, turning sideline rants into instant memes. With two titles in six years at UConn, Hurley’s resume rivals the best—only Jim Calhoun (three titles in 25 years) has more at Storrs. Yet, this season’s early exit has fans questioning if his intensity is a double-edged sword.

Even in this game, his reactions are being noticed by the entire basketball world. For instance, with about ten minutes left in the first half, Hurley’s reaction to a foul was quite comical. “Every time we get a shot of Dan Hurley, that is a potential meme waiting to happen.” The announcer Ian Eagle said, mocking his facial expressions and his body language.

The trouble for Hurley started with a game against Butler in which he got into it with the referees. “I’m the best coach in this f–king sport!” The UConn head coach was clipped saying, and it was all downhill from there. He went from being one of the most likable coaches to one of the most hated in half a season. But what do the fans think about his reactions on the court during the Round of 32? Let’s find out!

Fans react to ‘annoying’ Dan Hurley during Round of 32 excitement

What does the public think of Dan Hurley? Well, that’s a loaded question if there ever was one. The UConn head coach is talented, no doubt, as he led the Huskies to two back-to-back national championships. However, fans are beginning to dislike Hurley as a person after his antics this season.

His shift in personality this year has caught the eye of the public.  “Never seen a coach go from being likeable to annoying like Dan Hurley.” One fan said on X, while another took it a step further, comparing him to the McNeese head coach. “He has the most punchable face in college basketball… with Will Wade coming in a close second.”

And to put it succinctly? “Maybe the most disliked coach in the NCAA.” A fan said, and we appreciate the brevity! What these fans are saying is a common sentiment in the NCAA community. The UConn head coach has looked overconfident and cocky without producing the winning results he has been known for.

However even though people are annoyed with Hurley, they can’t seem to decide on a course of action either. “I cannot stand Dan Hurley. I hope Florida whoops that a– today.” A user said on X, wanting the Gators to send UConn home. However, another fan disagreed. “Same, but wouldn’t mind the Hogs sending him home next weekend.”

The way he carries himself definitely rubs fans the wrong way. In light of the recent defeat against Florida, it might be time for an attitude adjustment for Dan Hurley! Certainly, fans are hoping for it. It will be interesting to see how the UConn head coach bounces back from the loss, and all the criticism that he garnered this year. One thing’s for certain, however–March Madness will carry on! Stay tuned for all the action.
