The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the East Region faced up for an epic Elite 8 clash. But it was Duke who led all the way and won 85-65 to advance to the Final Four. Player of the Year candidate Cooper Flagg wasn’t at his best but was close to getting a double-double. Alabama’s season ends with a 28-9 overall record as they fell one win short of making the Final Four for the second consecutive season. The Crimson Tide struggled against the Blue Devils, and the fans were not happy. Usually, the criticism is towards the officials; however, this time, it was towards the CBS announcers.

One fan wrote, “The announcers on #DukeAla are #Dukepxp. This team is made for TV & ratings. Announcers on @tntsports are disgusting in how they worship #Duke. They refuse to call out their hockey checks which have not been called – threw #Alabama out of rhythm early #5BlueDevilsand3Referees.” Bama did struggle offensively against Duke’s defense, even their star player, Mark Sears. The point guard had 6 points and finished a disastrous 2-for-12 from the field with 5 turnovers.

Similarly, Cooper Flagg had 16 points and wasn’t the best player of the Blue Devils. The Freshman forward had his offensive struggles as well with 6-16 from FG. A 37.5% from the player put him as the least efficient player of the hardwood for Duke. It was Kon Knueppel who had a game high score of 21 points, followed by Tyrese Proctor who produced 17 points for Jon Scheyer and co.

But as per the fans, the struggle of Alabama was highlighted more than that of Duke. Plus, some of them did not appreciate praising basic points of the Blue Devils as if the achievements were historic. The Crimson Tide fans can understand the loss but won’t stand for blatant “glazing” for their Duke.

The announcers are on the receiving end as Cooper Flagg and Blue Devils dash Alabama’s title hopes

Ahead of this game, Duke’s defense, ranked sixth nationally, always were favorites to limit Alabama’s scoring opportunities. Bama just couldn’t make enough open shots. So, the Blue Devils were good defensively, but not nearly as good as these announcers would leave you to believe. That’s why a fan commented, “The Duke glaze by these announcers is insane.”

What’s your perspective on:

Are CBS announcers biased towards Duke, or are Alabama fans just sore losers this time?

Have an interesting take?

It was Brian Anderson handling the play-by-play duties and Jim Jackson served as the analyst. Knowing these names, a netizen suggested another broadcaster who could do a better job.  “Announcers are clearly on Duke moneyline never in my life have I seen more bias for nationally televised games. Give me Joe buck.” Alabama was the nation-leading offense, one coming off a record-setting night from 3 in the Sweet 16, failed to crack 70 points for only the second time this season.

The Crimson Tide fan also pointed out a glaring mistake by the announcers. “Announcer: “(Duke) Coach Scheyer has the #1 team in the nation with the #1 player in the nation” 🙄 #1 overall seed with a POTY finalist @AuburnMBB better put that on a bulletin board for tomorrow’s game.” They are not wrong, as Auburn is the #1 seed going into the Big Dance, and alongside Cooper Flagg, Tigers’ Johni Broome is an equal contender.

Because of this, fans felt the Crimson Tide did not get the deserved respect. “Can I just say, it is exhausting hearing the announcers speak so negatively about us and so positively about Duke the entire game.” Ultimately, the Blue Devils were better than Alabama on the night, but some fans felt the 20-point win was overhyped.
