The UConn Huskies have made a dominant start to their title defense in this year’s NCAA. Currently ranked No.5, the reigning national champions have won seven out of their eight games so far. However, their unbeaten run ended as they lost a close encounter against Kansas.

The defending champions held a slight edge over the visiting Tar Heels in the opening half of the match. Their charismatic No.12 Cam Spencer led the charge for them and was the prolific scorer from the Huskies’ camp. UNC’s standout player from their game against Florida, RJ Davis, made sure the Huskies didn’t run away with the game. In addition, forward Harrison Ingram also chipped in and provided much-needed assistance to Davis. At the end of the first half, the Huskies had a marginal 44-39 lead over UNC.

There was hardly any difference between them in the opening minutes of the second half. Both sides came out all guns blazing and were scoring at a rapid pace. However, with over 5 minutes to go before the final buzzer, UConn gained an upper hand as sophomore forward Alex Karaban and point guard Tristen Newton widened the gap. Furthermore, talented No.1 Solomon Ball also joined the party as he became the fourth Husky to have a double-digit score. In the end, UConn made sure not to provide any chance of a comeback to UNC as they closed the game on 87-76.
