If Dan Hurley were in the hot seat right now, he’d likely be questioning his decision to turn down the Lakers job. The defending champions just took another tough loss to the St. John’s Red Storm, 75-89, leaving their overall record at a disappointing 18-9 for the season. Unfortunately for Hurley, he now finds himself facing fan disappointment, a position he likely never imagined after securing back-to-back championships.
Fans are absolutely furious with UConn’s lackluster season, the misery started with the Maui Invitational and it still continues. Now, the Huskies are no longer even a top-25 team, and the heat is on! The once-proud program is facing calls from all directions, with some fans even suggesting they don’t deserve a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Fans were obviously fuming after UConn got swept by St. John’s for the first time since 2000. One fan on X made sure to rub it in, posting, “Swept UCONN for the First Time ⏲ Since 2000.” And as expected, that was just the beginning. Social media was flooded with frustration, disappointment, and some brutal takes on the Huskies’ nightmare season. Let’s dive into some of the best (or worst) reactions!

Fans fume over Dan Hurley and the Huskies performance
The frustration is boiling over for UConn fans, and one fan didn’t hold back, taking to X to vent their anger, “Put Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies in the NIT. Ain’t no one tryna see them in the tourney. These boys soft as fu-k.”And if that wasn’t brutal enough, the trolls piled on. One fan took the mockery to another level, writing, “UCONN, get ready to learn how to spell N-I-T.” Another put the final nail in the coffin, adding, “Can’t spell ‘Connecticut’ without ‘NIT.’”

These days, the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is basically a battle for the title of 69th best team in the country—not exactly a badge of honor. It’s the go-to insult for rival fans when a team misses out on the Big Dance. And right now, UConn fans are sweating because if things don’t turn around fast, there’s a real chance the Huskies won’t win the Big East tournament and could be watching March Madness from the sidelines. That’s something you as defending champions wouldn’t want to see, would you?
But fans weren’t done yet! They turned up the heat even more! One fan made their stance loud and clear, declaring, “The team that kicks UConn out is the team I’ll root for.” Meanwhile, another fan delivered a reality check to Dan Hurley and his squad, bluntly stating, “UConn is mid.” The disappointment and hate echo after every take. Fans never envisioned their team to struggle like this and yet here they are struggling with a 10-6 record in the Big East conference. They have become the definition of mediocre this season and Dan Hurley cant be blamed entirely either the guy is working with just one returning starter from last year’s title-winning squad!
