Kim Mulkey is known for her fierceness on the court. Not a single game goes by when she is not shouting at the referees or her players from the sidelines. But does it get out of hand at times? The LSU Tigers are back on track, regaining momentum after their tough loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Lady Tigers extended their SEC record to 7-1 after Mikaylah Williams’ 37 points helped them beat 13th-seed Oklahoma 107-100. But the fans are not having it with one thing that the Hall of Famer coach may have done.
Tempers flared early as LSU’s Sa’Myah Smith and Oklahoma’s Liz Scott got into a heated first-quarter scuffle. It all started when Smith shoved Beatrice Culliton to the ground after a physical battle in the lane, prompting Scott to step in and push Smith. This led to both getting ejected from the court!
With over 50 fouls called, this game was pure chaos! Kim Mulkey lost her cool and got so heated over a technical call that she smacked a clipboard right out of LSU assistant coach Seimone Augustus’ hands. This happened when the Tigers were 22 points ahead, making her reaction all the more surprising! This fiery outburst didn’t go unnoticed, and now Kim Mulkey is feeling the heat from her own Bayou fans!

The backlash didn’t stop at the final buzzer! It only got louder as the night went on! Fans flooded social media with reactions, and let’s just say, they didn’t hold back!
Mulkey’s sideline fury ignites fan outrage
Sure, emotions run high in a chaotic game, but you’d expect a coach of Mulkey’s caliber to know when to draw the line! At least now! The clipboard-smacking was too much for the fans. Kim Mulkey’s fiery outbursts have become a bit of a pattern at this point! One frustrated fan took to X, branding Kim Mulkey a “soc–path” after her fiery courtside meltdown.
Remember when two years ago, after a tough loss to Kentucky, her assistant coaches had to escort her off the court when she stormed onto the floor in a fit of rage to argue with the refs?

The fans didn’t stop there with one tweeting about Seimone Augustus’ calm reaction, saying, “The way Seimone Augustus keeps her hands held out after Kim Mulkey smacked the clipboard.” Being a 4x WNBA champ with the Minnesota Lynx herself that too under head coach Cheryl Reeve, Augustus knows a thing or two about getting into sticky situations but handling things with calm. Turns out, it is a good practice at Baton Rouge.
Another fan quickly replied by saying, “Yeah, Kim Mulkey has problems.” Mulkey’s fiery temper isn’t anything new, remember when she was ejected while leading by 41 points against Northwestern State, all because she tried to go toe-to-toe with a referee? Angel Reese had to come and separate her from the referees!
One fired-up fan on X took things a step further, comparing Kim Mulkey to Bobby Knight at his worst! “Kim Mulkey is worse than vintage Bobby Knight on his worst day, and even IU eventually got tired of his crap and gave him the axe. How much longer is LSU going to put up with this?” they tweeted.
And trust me! Bobby Knight was the last person you’d want to talk to if he was in a bad mood! Bobby had a history of losing temper under pressure! Knight once, five minutes into a game against Purdue, threw a chair towards the opposition guard in frustration for receiving a technical!
Fans have rallied behind assistant coach Seimone Augustus after Kim Mulkey’s fiery meltdown, demanding an apology for the chaotic clipboard incident. One passionate fan even took to X to share a podcast, insisting that “Kim Mulkey needs to apologize to Seimone.”

And the sentiment is understandable. Seimone Augustus is new to LSU and while we have experienced how this same fire gets Mulkey’s teams a win, maybe too much of anything is not the best.
The fan reactions to Kim Mulkey’s sideline outburst show just how much her actions have struck a nerve with LSU supporters. Nevertheless, as her mentees would say, her passion for the game is what sets her apart from many and has proven quite helpful in developing good athletes into incredible stars.
