Caitlin Clark was waiting to register her name in college basketball history. But more than her it was her fans who were watching the match in anticipation on the edge of their seats. The Iowa Hawkeyes clashed against the Ohio State Buckeyes at the Carver-Hawkeye arena on Sunday, and it was a special day for Clark since it was also her senior night celebration. Last time when Clark had gone ahead Kelsey Plum, she had throttled her signature three-pointer that brought joy to all her fans. But this time it was different.

Opening her score with a three-pointer, Clark brought the world to a standstill before the end of the first half when she surpassed Pete Maravich by a free throw. She thus scored those 18 points with 4-for-10 three-pointers. Her three-pointer stat is a sure testament to what her fans went through every time Clark had her hands on the ball. At one time, the entire gymnasium also stood up thinking that Clark would drop a three-pointer and edge past Maravich, but destiny had it through a free throw.

Though Clark started off slow since the Buckeyes were trying their best to screen her and not give her open space to score. But after all, like it has happened throughout the season, even in this match Clark ultimately prevailed. She got free throws which helped her immensely as she went on to break the record. Other than that, Clark had 4 rebounds and 6 assists which proved that she was not thinking constantly about the record but rather wanted her team to have the better position in the match. At the time of her record-breaking feat, the Hawkeyes were stationed at 48 in comparison to the Buckeyes who were positioned at 39.

Gabbie Marshall too supported Clark & Co. by smoking 6 points with 2 assists until then.
