The Iowa Hawkeyes, led by Caitlin Clark, secured a thrilling road victory against the Maryland Terps, marking their first-ever win in the Big Ten conference. With just minutes left in the game, the score remained close as both teams took turns hitting 3-pointers, causing the enthusiastic sold-out crowd at the Xfinity Center to erupt in cheers.

Iowa’s Caitlin Clark scored a fantastic 38 points, her fourth-highest score of the season. Both Maryland and the Terrapins fought hard as well. Ultimately, Iowa prevailed. During the game, Clark was injured due to a physical altercation, which created a brief commotion among the Hawkeye players and fans.

In the middle of the second quarter, Caitlin Clark had 16 points on the scoreboard as Iowa was leading with 33 points. Mary Land was trying to come out of a 7-point deficit. A Maryland player intentionally hit Clark with the shoulder. She took a hard shoulder right square in the diaphragm and got the wind knocked out of her.

Unfortunately, no foul was called, which infuriated the team and fans further. Caitlin Clark was assisted by her coaching staff to the bench as she took a breath. She walked out of the game at 6:16 in the second quarter.

Having been hit by a fan earlier when a crowd stormed into the court, this was the second time Clark had a close shave with injury. Though basketball serves an intense physicality in nature, players getting injured with intentional fouls highly demotivates the basic ethics followed in the game. Clark took a few moments off and went back to the court with a banger as she scored 38 points in return.
