Iowa Hawkeyes’ star attraction Caitlin Clark has scripted her name in the record books. The 2023 AP Player of the Year has become the 15th Division I women’s basketball player to cross the 3000 mark. In addition to this, she also has 750 rebounds and assists to her name.

Caitlin Clark reached this milestone in the Hawkeyes’ comfortable 67-58 victory over Iowa State. As a result, the Hawkeyes are now placed at No.4 and carry a resounding (9-1) record in the competition so far.

Following this, the dynamic point guard addressed the media and shared her experience, “It was kind of the same when I broke the Iowa scoring record. We keep playing, we don’t celebrate it in a timeout, we don’t stop the game. As long as we win, you know I probably wouldn’t be happy with scoring 3000 points and a loss. It didn’t really cross my mind.” The 6 ft guard had yet another remarkable night with the basketball as she registered her 41st 30-point game. Caitlin finished the night with 35 points to go with 9 rebounds and 5 assists.

The reigning national player of the year displayed a tremendous exhibition in front of a sold-out Hilton Coliseum. Caitlin made an explosive start to the opening quarter scoring 12 points. Although, she had to put brakes on her scoring in the second quarter as she could manage only 3 points. Nonetheless, she picked up her pace again in the third quarter after landing her fifth 3-pointer which ultimately led her to go past 3000 points. Furthermore, she added all of Iowa’s 14 points in the penultimate quarter.

A while ago, NCAA‘s all-time leading scorer–Kelsey Plum– issued a warning to Clark about going after her record. In an interview with Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, the two-time WNBA champion said, “I feel like people started caring less about the game and more about just the individual points. You can play really well and score 15, or 20 points and have a great game. It was tough for me because I felt like I lost a little bit of my identity and it ultimately led to a tough transition into the (WNBA) because the expectations were so high. So, if anything, I’d try to send her as much compassion and love as I can and I hope the people around her are checking in with her … because it’s going to be tough to feel like you’re just playing basketball.”

There is no denying that Caitlin Clark has been a standout performer throughout her career. With Plum’s record in sight, fans will be hoping her to conquer it as soon as possible. Nonetheless, Clark will lay more emphasis on becoming a national champion for the first time.
