Caitlin Clark’s achievements do not seem to have an end. The National Player of the Year grabbed her second consecutive Wooden Award, despite a heartbreaking defeat in the National Championship game. However, with a plethora of awards under her name, what does the Iowa sensation think of them? How is she preparing for the WNBA, and what has her livelihood been like? All these questions were answered when Caitlin joined ESPN for a recent interview.

Talking about her 45th award, the 22-year-old enlightened the SportsCenter on how she keeps everything in perspective. “These awards never get old. I’m super fortunate to have a team like I do, to play for a university that supports women’s basketball so much. The two seasons that we’ve been able to put in in the last couple of years are really special. I know it goes fast,” Caitlin Clark emphasized, adding, “The biggest thing I’ve been able to remind myself was how grateful I am, and a lot of people wanna be in my shoes.”

The 2-time Naismith Player of the Year also discussed how she can still not wrap her head around the fact that 24 million people were viewing this year’s National Championship game. Narrating her perception, Clark mentioned thinking that the 8.9 million views for last year’s championship game against LSU were special. However, this season, she confessed feeling far more amazed by growing the numbers, elevating to double digits throughout this year.

Moreover, Caitlin Clark also built up the women’s league, noting how these numbers show the prospects of women’s basketball; if given the right platform. Additionally, she opened up about Dawn Staley’s compliments while sharing insights from her preparations for the WNBA.

Recently, Dawn Staley was caught appreciating Clark in a pre-game interview. During the exchange, Staley affirmed considering Caitlin Clark a ‘GOAT’ if she wins the National Champion title. However, while Iowa lost to the Gamecocks, their head coach had resounding words for the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. “I wanna personally thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport. So, if Caitlin Clark, you are out there; you are one of the GOATs of our sport. We appreciate you,” Dawn Staley said.

Hearing the words from one of the best coaches in NCAA history, Clark highlighted the heavy crown she now carries, explaining, “Coach Bluder said your pressure is a privilege.” Notably, she admitted relying on her Hawkeyes team for support whenever she felt burdened.

Caitlin also discussed her move to the WNBA, where being a rookie is a lot different than being a freshman in college. But she was simply excited to move into a new environment and be surrounded by a team filled with talents. In the end, she seemed eager to learn new things from new coaches.

Caitlin Clark is surely someone who loves a challenge, and as a successful athlete in a highly competitive game, she only wishes to do well. Her next step will be decided on Monday with the WNBA draft. She is expected to be a lottery pick for the Indiana Fever and play alongside Aaliyah Boston, the 2022 National Champion under Dawn Staley.
