Caitlin Clark cannot stop making history. She is a game-changer who entered the NCAA Championship Game with aplomb, having already surpassed former Davidson star Steph Curry’s three-point DI record. However, there was more history to be made on Sunday against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Clark entered the game needing 4 threes to become the first player in history to surpass the 200-threes made in a season threshold. The previous record was 162, co-held by Curry. While 4 threes are not much for the 22-year-old, her performance in the Final Four had the fans doubting her a little bit. She went 3-11 from deep against the UConn Huskies in the previous game. But all those doubts were extinguished within the first 10 minutes as Clark went berserk.

She scored 18 points, the most in any quarter in a Championship Game, and she also made 4 out of her 6 threes, thus breaching the 200 mark. Earlier, on March 9, 2024, Iowa’s 22-year-old point guard shattered the NCAA Division I record for the most 3-pointers made in a season by a woman or a man during the Hawkeyes’ 95-62 Big Ten Tournament victory over the Penn State Lady Lions. While it was a historic night for Clark, it ended in disappointment.

The Hawkeyes lost 87-75 against the Gamecocks despite Clark’s 30 points. While she had 18 points in the 1st quarter, she could only score 12 more points throughout the game. Nevertheless, one can’t take away from Clark setting new standards for shooting and her overall collegiate run as a whole.

When Caitlin Clark entered a new league of Titans

Stephen Curry set the record in the 2007–08 season while playing for the Davidson Wildcats with 162 successful baskets from outside the arc. He shared the record with Darius McGhee of the Liberty Flames. Clark hasn’t just surpassed arguably the greatest shooter of all time, she has done so in style. She has finished her collegiate career with 201 made threes, 39 more than anyone else in history.

Throughout her time in college, she had only once been held without a 3-point make. On January 13, 2022, Clark was 0 for 6 from outside the arc but still managed to score 24 points in a victory over Purdue. And that isn’t her only record.

Clark previously surpassed Hall of Famer “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s record of 3,667 points on March 3 during a victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. She also holds the record for most points scored in the NCAA Tournament, which she broke during the National Championship Game against South Carolina. She also holds almost all of Iowa’s records as well, as per ESPN.
