Houston is making their way back into the Conference plays after their brief slump in the Big 12. The Cougars won back-to-back games after their disappointing outings against Iowa State and TCU. Moreover, their resounding 77-54 away win against the 25th-ranked Texas Tech sky-rocketed their confidence to another level.

Now, they travel to Provo, Utah to lock horns with the BYU Cougars next. While Houston will enter the court as firm favorites of the contest, Brigham Young holds a 10-1 in home games. Who are the players from both these line-ups to have an impact on the game? Let’s have a look.

BYU vs Houston: Players to watch out for

The visitors include 3 players in their locker room holding a double-digit average in the competition so far. Their pack is led by their senior guard L.J. Cryer who maintains an impressive 15.2 P.P.G in his 18 games played so far. Moreover, he delivers at least 9 points from the 3-point range per game as he is their best shooter from beyond the arc. Next in line is their dynamic No.21 Emanuel Sharp. Apparently, in Houston’s last 10 games, his numbers are 13.3 points and 1.7 steals per game.

Moving on to BYU, their 6′ 7″ athlete Jaxson Robinson is the flag bearer of the team in terms of scoring. He currently averages 13.9 points along with grabbing 43.7% field goal efficiency. In addition to this, he is the go-to man for the No.21 BYU when it comes to burying free throws with a precision of 90.5 % so far. Meanwhile, Trevin Knell is also turning some heads in his junior campaign. Apart from holding the best 3-point range record of 47.1 % among the top 6, he averaged 11.9 points in the last 10 fixtures for BYU.

Tuesday night will be the first time these two teams face each other in Big 12 this season. However, they do have an interesting rivalry between them.

The Houston Cougars hold the upper hand in one-on-one matchups between the two programs. They have met each other 8 times in the NCAA previously with Houston winning 5 of them. Further, the last time these two teams clashed, BYU got the better of the Cougars with a  72-71 victory on Nov. 15, 2019, at the Fertitta Center. Also, BYU holds a slight offensive advantage as they are currently scoring 80.0 points per game along with 19.3 assists to Houston’s 73.0 points and 10.5 assists. On the other hand, both teams are on level terms in grabbing at 39.8 per contest. Anyhow, Houston holds a slight defensive edge as they have allowed other teams to score at 51.5 which is 18 points per game less than the home team.

It will be an exciting game between two evenly matched-sides. While Houston sits above BYU on the points table, their impeccable home run gives them the much-needed momentum. It will be interesting to see which team performs better on a given day.
