Home/College Basketball

2024 has begun. And like every new calendar, this year too brings with it a lot of possibilities to the college basketball circuit. The NCAA tournament is at its zenith right now and reporter Jeff Goodman took out his time to recommend some New Year resolutions to college basketball teams. However, what stood out was his advice to the University of Connecticut Huskies head coach Dan Hurley.

The suggestion Goodman gave was so personal that it caught a lot of eyeballs and fans couldn’t help but remember a superstition that Hurley has caught on over the years. The tip by Goodman was hilarious, to say the least.

What did Jeff Goodman say?

Goodman made an appearance on the ‘Field of 68’ podcast on December 31. He was present along with John Fanta and John Henson to analyze and suggest improvements in the current college basketball teams. The section of the podcast had a New Year resolution for the college teams. Goodman took the opportunity to take a sarcastic jab at the UConn Huskies that had its fans having a good laugh at their head coach Dan Hurley.

“Here’s my new year resolution for… for UConn. For Andrea Hurley, the wife of one Dan Hurley. No more washing your husband’s dragon underwear, or any underwear. Okay? Let him do it himself. Do not wash it on the road. I don’t care what he says. Make him… If he wants to do it, let him do it. If not let him go out and buy another pair of underwear at the store. I don’t care enough, Andrea. Enough, enough, enough… You should not have to do this anymore,” Jeff Goodman remarked.

It was a sarcastic dig on the UConn head coach Dan Hurley. Hurley as per USA Today, had worn the same red boxers that had a dragon print throughout the entire NCAA 2022-23 tournament. The idiosyncratic superstition was revealed to the media by his wife Andrea Hurley. As per the same news, Dan had a portable washing machine to keep his undies ready for every game.

The 51-year-old also went as far as wearing the same outfit twice against the Iona during the first round and afterward to the game against St. Mary’s. The Huskies defeated the Iona Gaels by a blowout margin of 87-63.

They then went on to decimate the St. Mary’s Gaels by a decent margin of 70-55. Looks, like Hurley believes that his underwear was a chief reason for the Huskies winning the 2022-23 NCAA tournament title.

Have the undies helped Huskies this year?

The UConn Huskies have a great 11-2 record and have only lost two games against formidable teams like the Kansas Jayhawks and the Seton Hall. Other than that, their campaign this year has seen a lot of rosy moments. The surely goes to the players and the Hurley, but after Goodman’s comment, it might look like his boxers have also played their part this year.

The Dan Hurley-coached team will battle it out against the DePaul Blue Demons next and if they continue their on-song performance who knows this year too they might make it to the knockouts and win back-to-back championships.
