While UConn wins most of the time, there have been blowout wins this season. But the two losses still have put immense pressure on Geno Auriemma. His players’ management skills have been questioned a couple of times, too. Ahead of the game against Georgetown, fans seem to side with their HOFer coach as his recent interview suggests a bias against their team which the 70-year-old has pointed out before as well.

The game against the Hoyas is only a few hours away. Even though ESPN predicts the Huskies win rate at 99%, there seems to be an issue. “Make more than the other team attempts. That’s always been the case through my whole coaching career. If you look at the stats through the years, we’ve made more than the other team attempted a lot.” Geno Auriemma explained his philosophy on free throws which is the same since he took over the job back in 1985.

As per Carl Adamec, the Huskies have not shot 700 free throws in a season since 2010. Interestingly, from 1994 to 2003, for the entire decade, they had no issues to cross the 700 figure. Adamec further added, “entering Friday’s action they are No. 347 out of 353 Division I teams in free throws made (6.88) and No. 351 in free throws attempted (9.62), ahead of only Maine and Lafayette.” When Geno Auriemma discussed this issue, even he seemed to have no answer.

Is it because teams are better at not fouling? Is it because there are so many more threes attempted that there’s less interior play and less people taking the ball to the basket? Are they settling for more threes? I don’t know, I don’t really know the answer.” But the fanbase of Huskies knows exactly what’s going on.

Is the officiating bias against UConn real, or is it just a lack of aggression?

Have an interesting take?

Right after the blowout win over the Hoyas the last time out, a surprising stat against Paige Bueckers emerged. In nearly 70% of games, the senior has ended up attempting less than four free throws. The only exceptions were her matchups against 3 ranked opponents at the time. Thus a fan wrote, “This is insane and should be addressed! The bias against @UConnWBB is very glaring!” Even the coach explained how her star player copes with that.

Paige is the biggest whiner in America because she feels she doesn’t get the calls that she deserves. So she goes in there, throws up something crazy, and it goes in.” That’s why another netizen was purely shocked at the statistic. “genuinely what the fuck. “Out of 16 games this season, UConn has shot more free throws five times and shot fewer 10 times with the Marquette game on Jan. 1. Another fan knew that the refs have to do a better job. “Been trying to tell y’all they get the worst whistle. Folks just hate UConn and it has nothing to do with being aggressive.”

In the loss at Notre Dame on Dec. 12, Irish star Hannah Hidalgo took more free throws (7) than the UConn team (5). Another fan pointed out the greatness of Coach Geno Auriemma and men’s team coach Dan Hurley have the same problem. “Also, Hurley has the same problem. The refs hate him but for a different reason. They are free to dislike him but it shouldn’t affect how the game is called.”

But the coach knows this issue, as he previously pointed out the referee’s point of view. However, a netizen disagreed, “This is CRAZY! It’s either @UConnWBB BIAS by the refs OR lack of aggression by the team.” So the Huskies know the issue, but will the officials change their way after public bashing from the fans?
