Azzi Fudd’s early life and career

Azzi Fudd’s father, Tim, played basketball at American University, while her mother, Katie, attended Georgetown and NC State before being selected by the Sacramento Monarchs in the 2001 WNBA draft. Azzi’s mother named her after the basketball player Jennifer Azzi, whom she admired. In 2011, Azzi’s parents adopted her two younger brothers, Jon and Jose. She also has an older brother, Thomas.
After averaging 26.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, Fudd became the first sophomore to win the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award in 2019. She led her team to a 35-1 record after winning the District of Columbia State Athletic Association championship. Fudd won the three-point shooting competition at the camp before her sophomore year. She was one of the first girls to participate in the SC30 Select Camp, a renowned off-season training program led by Stephen Curry.

Reports suggest that Steph Curry is keen to work closely with Fudd to help her grow as a young athlete and provide her with career guidance. After Curry made his announcement through Twitter, Fudd expressed her happiness about the collaboration in the board room.
“It’s an honor to be the first player to be partnered with Curry Brand,” Fudd responded, “but to not only be the first person but also the first female? That meant a lot to me.”
What’s waiting for Azzi Fudd in basketball?

With the return of Paige Bueckers to the team, the duo is definitely considering making a championship run. Bueckers is more likely to be drafted in the 2024 WNBA draft. Although Azzi Fudd could play in the WNBA once she turns 22, she intends to return to UConn.
Fudd’s decision makes logical sense, as she would’ve more time to focus on maintaining her health and improving her game.

Fudd has many NIL deals that she can use in the meantime and would probably be a top choice in 2025. “I plan on staying,” says Fudd about her decision. “Why would I want to leave the basketball capital of the world?”
