The Uconn Huskies are back to winning ways as they lately secured a dominant victory over No.20 Maryland. They got their momentum back on track after their disappointing outing against NC State. However, this victory was in the absence of their shooting guard Azzi Fudd. The No. 35 of the UConn Huskies injured her knee during practice on Tuesday. Following this, the head coach issued a statement saying, “Fudd still had some swelling in her knee and so they might have to wait to conduct testing, but the program is holding out hope this one might be minor.”

This is not the first time Azzi Fudd has found herself in such a situation. The 2019 Gatorade National Player of the Year has had a long history of injuries

Azzi Fudd joined the Huskies camp in 2021 as their No. 1 recruit. However, her NCAA career has always been eclipsed by her injuries. Azzi had to sit out 10 games in her freshman season due to a foot injury. Further, when she started her sophomore campaign, multiple injuries in her right knee forced her out of action for 22 games. Before her sophomore season, Azzi Fudd participated in the final of the U.S. under-18 3×3 championships. Unfortunately, the 2021 McDonald’s All-American tore her ACL and MCL in her right knee during the game.

The Morgan Wootten Player of the Year is not the only player in the Huskie’s locker room having injury woes. The National Player of 2021 Paige Bueckers had to miss her entire last season due to a damaged ACL. Prior to that, she had to miss 19 games in her previous campaign due to a different injury in her knee.

Azzi Fudd’s season so far

The ESPN’s number one recruit, Azzi Fudd was starting to show glimpses of her old self after making a comeback. In the first two games, the talented shooting guard had a compelling average of 30.4 minutes per game. In addition to this, Fudd made valuable contributions in the Huskies’ season-opening win against Dayton. She ended her night scoring 13 points along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists to her name. Following this, she had a rather dull outing in UConn’s loss to NC State scoring only 9 points. Further, she could only land 4 out of her 13 attempts successfully.

Azzi Fudd had to go through an intense battle both physically and emotionally to make her comeback. The fans and members of the UConn Huskies will be praying that she doesn’t miss out on any further games because of another injury. But one has to wait and see what is the magnitude of her current injury.
