The NCAA standout Caitlin Clark has been quite in the news for chasing Kelsey Plum’s Division One record. KP hasn’t given any official reviews on that, but recently she acknowledged that records are meant to be broken, and that she was really supportive of the Iowa star.

The WNBA and NCAA standouts often express mutual respect on social media, which has their fans elated. The 2X WNBA champion showed the same camaraderie while camping at Barcley’s center, Brooklyn.

Kelsey Plum has amassed 3,527 points with the Huskies in a four-year stellar basketball career in the division. Caitlin Clark of Iowa is fast catching up with her. Her 32-pointer game for Iowa created such a striking distance that breaking Plum’s record is just a few points away.

When asked through a video call how she feels about her record being broken, Plum gave a gracious answer that she is excited for Clark to break her record. In her words, “I’m actually very grateful to pass that baton. I’m very happy for her.”

She also talked about the pressure of trailing back a record and how heavy it is. “I remember, to be honest, [the record] was very much a low point in my life,” said the 2X WNBA champion. “It felt like a lot of pressure, and my identity was kind of caught up in that record. I hope everyone in the media takes time to understand that [Clark] is not just a basketball player but a young woman who has feelings and emotions. She carries it with grace, but there’s a lot to handle there.”

Plum also made sure that fans should shower love despite her on-and-off-court performance. “If anything, make sure that we show her love outside of her performance. She’ll break it. I’m excited for her.” Plum further posted this on her Instagram stories by captioning, “Much love, @caitlinclark,” which Caitlin counter-acknowledged by reposting it on her stories.

When can we expect Clark to break the record?

The 2023 Naismith player of the year has great momentum this season if she continues playing with the current average of 34 points per game. Clark is likely to become the leading NCAA scorer in the match against Michigan on February 15.

Scoring her first 40-pointer triple-double, Clark is also a few efforts away from setting a quadruple-double in the NCAA. She is projected as the No. 1 pick of the Indiana Pacers in the upcoming NBA Draft, for which her fans are highly excited.
