What’s Arkansas’ current focus now that its Cinderella run ended with a Sweet 16 loss to Texas Tech? None other than—the transfer portal! John Calipari is eyeing reinforcements to strengthen his squad for next season. Coach Cal’s already got a strong 2025 recruiting class, with Meleek Thomas leading the charge. But why stop there? There’s still a top 5 prospect available—and Arkansas is in his top five schools.
Nate Ament is still weighing his options for next season, and it’s not just Coach Cal who’s after him. Jon Scheyer is in the mix too. While fully locked in on his Final Four showdown with Houston, Scheyer has already built the third No. 1 recruiting class in his time spent at Duke. He will want nothing more than to add another top 5 talent should Cooper Flagg decide to join the majors.
For a while, it seemed like Nate Ament was headed to the Louisville Cardinals. But Cardinals fans got hit with a big blow when Ament decided to postpone his commitment announcement. He’ll be competing in the McDonald’s All-American Game tonight at 9 PM ET on ESPN, but his decision is now on hold. It was supposed to come today, but looks like we’ll have to wait until after the Final Four for the confirmation. “I’m just not 100% yet; I want to take some extra time to be completely confident in my choice,” he said.

The number four prospect in the class of 2025 is choosing between Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee. If he makes the rumored switch to Louisville, he’ll pocket an extra $87,525 from Fanstake. Louisville fans have been pouring money in the hope that they can finance a deal to land Ament.
It’s not just the fans pushing for Nate Ament to join Louisville—there’s also a certain Louisville alum doing everything he can to bring the talented forward into the fold and bring misery to the other four programs. Let’s take a look at the pitch he makes to convince the 18-year-old to join the Cardinals.

Donovan Mitchell plans to inflict more pain on John Calipari and Jon Scheyer
Nate Ament is used to having ex-players pitch on behalf of their teams. Last month, it was Duke alum Austin Rivers trying to convince him to join the Blue Devils. This time, Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell is stepping in to pitch for the Louisville Cardinals.
“I haven’t spoken to him, I don’t know if he knows that I would like him to commit,” Mitchell told reporters during an interview at a McDonald’s All-American Game practice session. “I know Mikel (Brown Jr.) probably has talked to him, but he’s a talent, man. He would make us really, really special. We already got a hell of a class and hell of a team, but Nate, if you watching this, you know what I’m saying, we’ll find a way to get in contact with you. Hopefully, we can get you over to Louisville.”

Nate Ament would be welcomed with open arms at Louisville, but the other four schools on his list are just as eager. John Calipari rarely loses a recruitment battle, and he’ll be giving it everything to land Ament. Jon Scheyer, known for pulling in the top recruiting classes every year, would love to add Nate to his roster. The decision is still up in the air, but whichever program he chooses, it’ll be a huge talking point going forward. Can Louisville do the impossible? Or will John Calipari win again? Stay tuned to find out!
