LSU’s second-round March Madness matchup was always going to be a physical game. Even Kim Mulkey suggested that Middle Tennessee was not going to drop the towel easily. However, who knew that the Lady Tigers star Angel Reese and the Blue Raiders center Anastasiia Boldyreva would take it to the next level? Looks like Reese is back to her taunting games like the previous year with Caitlin Clark. Or is she?
The two teams went neck-to-neck until the tail end of the third quarter when the No. 2 of Middle Tennessee fouled out. In her most natural way, Reese did not miss a second to switch to her competitive alter ego to wave a rather rude goodbye to an emotional Boldyreva.
A YouTube short posted by WBB Clips shows the dominant LSU forward taunting a crucial player for the Blue Raiders in a very Angel Reese manner. The announcer commented, “Their best big is done and they’re very emotional about it.” Another commentator added, “We’ve talked about this. How connected this Middle Tennessee team is and it’s a family atmosphere. And this young lady’s been so instrumental on both ends.”

In today’s game, Boldyreva managed only 9 points and 2 rebounds, contrasting to her usual 14.6 ppg and 8.6 rebounding average. Her presence on the court was certainly essential for Middle Tennessee to advance over LSU. She maintained the inflow of points until 5:58 of the third quarter when the two teams were tied with 41 points on the board.

Savannah Wheeler and Ta’Mia Scott pulled off some impressive stints to contribute 21 and 15 points respectively against the Tigers. However, their hard work went down the drain as LSU picked up their pace as soon as the second-best scorer of the Blue Raiders was out of sight.

Angel Reese and the Tigers pull off a big win
While the junior center left the court with tears in her eyes, the Lady Tigers saw their chance to finally get ahead of the 11th-seed opponent. In fact, just within a matter of three minutes, LSU was ahead by 6 points and too far away for the Blue Raiders to pounce on them. Thanks to Flau’jae Johnson’s 3-point jumper assisted by Morrow with 2:57 left on the clock, LSU increased their lead. The game, which seemed equally contested, ended with LSU winning 83-56 at PMAC.
It is interesting to see how the player who hinted at being cute and simple for the March Madness turns into a carefree beast on the floor. After making the headlines for a long time for dissing Caitlin Clark with “You can’t see me” gesture, seems like LSU fans are in for another Angel Reese antics-filled tourney this year. Next, the defending champions will square off against the second-round advancers from LA.
