Kailyn Gilbert's clutch play—future star or just a lucky moment? What's your take, Tiger fans?

The 7th-ranked LSU Tigers played their seventh game on Monday against Washington. The Lady Tigers were about to falter with 20 seconds left as Washington led the score by a 67-66 margin. However, it was an astounding performance by the Kim Mulkey star Kailyn Gilbert that saved the day for the Lady Tigers and helped them avoid a humiliating loss.

“GEAUX TIGERSSSS but PLEASE stop scaring me like thattttt😭,” taking note of the same, former LSU star Angel Reese took to X to share a message for her alma mater. And Reese’s panicked four words—’please stop scaring me’—weren’t just a joke. With a second left in the buzzer, Gilbert showed her mettle by first hitting a layup that took the score to 68-67 in favor of the Lady Tigers, who were previously trailing.

Next, she also performed a steal that helped the Lady Tigers avoid a basket in such a crucial moment. Thus, Reese, who would have been scared as per her own admission was relieved.

The Lady Tigers have won all of their seven games up until now, but this was crucial since it came very close. The first quarter showed the level of preparation of the Huskies, as they scored 24 points compared to the Lady Tigers 11. Then in the next quarter, Flau’jae Johnson & Co. tried to cover up as they hit 15 points in response to Washington’s 12. Going ahead, the next quarters were again dominated by LSU, as they scored 22 and 20 points, whereas Washington failed to capitalize on the lead set in the first quarter. Overall, the game ended on a 68-67 tally in favor of LSU.

The top scorers for LSU were Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, who hit 19 points each. Meanwhile, Morrow hit a double-double by collecting 13 boards. As for Sa’Myah Smith, she had 16 points with 15 rebounds. And Gilbert played for only 17 minutes but had 8 points with 3 rebounds, other than saving the day for her team. Meanwhile, Reese has been keen on the Lady Tigers this year.

When Reese declared for the W, the LSU Tigers fans thought that their dream of having a formidable team was over. Reese had notably been the chief architect of the Lady Tigers win in the NCAA Championship 2022–23. However, during the exhibition game against Xavier, a shorthanded LSU Tigers had to look for players who could represent them amid injury woes. In such a situation, Reese compared Jada Richard to herself. “why i thought lil jada was me with the middle part bussdown😭🤣go head i see you sisterrrrr,” Reese tweeted at halftime.

Now it is not exactly known whether the Chicago Sky rookie was comparing her playing style or her fashion sense with her; some say she got Mulkey to get Richard on the court. The result of which was that the only freshman in the lineup hit 14 points (4 of 6) shooting from the field, which contributed to winning by a 114-53 tally.

And now that Reese has once again shown interest in the Lady Tigers games, fans would be hoping that the team continues its winning streak and extends it to another Championship title.
