The LSU Tigers faced their toughest competition this season at home on Thursday night. In a repeat of last season’s NCAA Final Four, the Lady Tigers locked horns against the No.9 ranked Virginia Tech. However, the talk of the town was the return of their power forward, Angel Reese. The Bayou Barbie makes her return to Kim Mulkey’s squad after missing four consecutive games.
Furthermore, the Tigers will be without their sophomore forward Sa’Myah Smith as she has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament following her knee injury. Nonetheless, LSU kept its winning streak alive with a comfortable 82-64 win at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The reigning national champions made a rusty start to the game as they were trailing by 7 points in the first quarter. Additionally, All-American forward, Angel Reese committed 2 fouls while making her return to the court. Nonetheless, she finished the quarter with 4 points and 5 rebounds. The Lady Tigers stormed back in the second quarter led by their star guard Mikaylah Williams. The defending champions carried their scoring momentum in the third quarter with Mikaylah Williams and Angel Reese shifting their game to the next gear. The Lady Tigers tightened their grip on the match as they further extended their lead. Reese soon joined Morrow and Williams and became the third LSU player with a double-digit score. As a result, LSU had a healthy lead of 13 points by the end of quarter 3. It was all too easy for them in the penultimate quarter as Flau’jae Johnson became the ‘fourth horseman’ for LSU when she joined the double-digit club. They didn’t let Virginia make any sort of comeback as they went over the finish line with a resounding 82-64 victory.
