The American Dream Team member apparently took it very far in excitement. And now, a barrage of raged reactions as a reality check has only backfired Magic Johnson’s latest post on MiLaysia Fulwiley’s coast-to-coast shot during her maiden collegiate match. One of the greatest point guards drew parallels between the rookie and the giants of the game. However, many fans were not pleased and saw it as an insult to their favorite NBA players. They stormed Johnson’s Twitter page with suitable evidence to support their opinions. Nevertheless, Fulwiley’s move was undeniably impressive and had never been performed in basketball before.

In the second quarter of the game, the South Carolina Gamecocks’ rookie left basketball fans in awe with her incredible coast-to-coast layup, helping them defeat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 100-71. This amazing play soon went viral, drawing attention from the basketball community.

The South Carolina women’s basketball team began the season rated sixth in the AP Poll, thanks to a strong recruiting class. Fulwiley made a reputation for herself quickly, garnering praise on social media from the greatest basketball player of all time. Magic Johnson enhanced her game more than LeBron James and Steph Curry. But this was not received well by fans.

One fan quoted Kyrie Irving of Dallas Mavericks as he does that often in his games, and she ain’t nothing special on gameplay. That’s just Kyrie on a random Tuesday; it was nice,” he wrote on Twitter.

Another fan poured his candid emotion, as Johnson could have addressed it as a great move, as the statement issued by him is highly questioning the talents of NBA players when there are a minimum of thirty such highlights in the NBA. “Why do you have to say all of this, man? You couldn’t just say it was a great move? You had to say, “The best move in all of basketball, including Lebron, Steph,” etc. When I can find 30 highlights of all of them individually doing the exact same thing, just say it was great.”

Another fan commented that it was a move that Magic Johnson has himself mastered in his basketball career. “This must be a move Magic did a lot,” and was surprised that he had to praise this a lot.

A die-hard NBA fan took this tweet as a mutual insult to his co-players and the NBA, as he wrote, “Thanks, but I’ll stick to the NBA. This post is an insult; you can appreciate one without disrespecting the other.”

Another fan of Magic Johnson reminded him that it was his move that he nailed so many times in his NBA career: “Just watched it; it looked like one of your highlights from back in the day, Magic.”

An impeccable move from MiLaysia Fulwiley

Even with all the criticism, Fulwiley’s move in her very first collegiate game was astounding. In the opening game of the Gamecocks’ matchup with Oregon in the top-10, Fulwiley made headlines with an incredible transition layup.

With a 100-71 victory over Notre Dame, South Carolina got off to a great start to the season.

It’s no surprise that basketball luminaries queued up to praise MiLaysia Fulwiley as she was earlier lauded by coach Dawn Staley for her expectant performance before her debut. And she just stood right up to their words in spite of all the harsh takes.
